so i popped open my old (second hand) roland sh 09 to give it a bit of clean and make sure everything was going ok inside and to my horror i found that one of the grounding wires that connects the top section of the case to the main ground is hanging free

there is a hole (possibly where a bolt once sat) and an exposed patch of metal where it was once attached but alas nothing holding it there

my question is what's the best way to re attach it to the case

thanks

sh 09 cases are like swiss cheese Laughing

Ah well, I had that once with a brand new washing machine ... the incoming yellow / green wire was connected nowhere, everyone survived Very Happy

I'd use a bolt a nut a dented and a normal washer, when you feel like doing it nicely you could use a solder lug. As long as you have a contact that lasts it's OK.

I've heard of people detaching grounds on purpose to avoid ground loops possibly this is what's happened ? - although usually its the ground between the PSU and case

Crossed my mind as well, but wondered why only the lid, seemed a bit odd, but there could be a reason indeed.
