What kind of 1/4" mono pots should I order for my synth? I need them inexpensive and they can't take up alot of space on my front panel. Also, what pots do you guys use? Add links if you can.

Switchcraft 112a's - from mouser.com, part number 502-112A

Scott Deyo at Bridechamber has a similar thing a bit cheaper - https://bridechamber.sslpowered.com/bridechamber.com/Jacks.html

Pots? I love spectrol 249's, but can't afford them anymore. Alpha pots are fine though. Get a mouser and/or a digikey catalog - pdf or paper, and search through them. Once you place an order, the paper catalogs are going to start arriving anyway...

It's a very bad mistake to go completely by price for jacks. I've seen some real garbage.

I have been pleased with Neutrik NYS229. Well under $1 each even in small quantities, and they are very well built. (.69 in quantity of 100 last time I bought them)

If you need the plugs, they are NYS224 - also quite nice for very reasonable price - especially in quantity.

I have literally hundreds of these in use in my system with zero issues.

Alpha pots have been good to me, too.

Fadedata may sound slightly trollish, but he has a good point - if you're early in the business of building synth modules, you might want to seriously consider using banana jacks. Especially if space is at a premium. No need for multiple panels with them, and they're very compact and reliable. If you're like me, and have over 400 1/4in jacks already installed, it's a daunting task to even consider switching, but if you're just starting out, think about it!

Didn't mean to troll...I even offered a link to the jacks everyone uses Very Happy

They really are the best. It's amazing not using mults, it changes the way you think about patching up...

thumb up Yes. I have some gear with decades old Johnson jacks which are looser than than new Johnson jacks but none make any scratchy sounds or have needed to be cleaned. Kind of amazing but how could any connector with all that contact area, all of which gets a good wipe every time it's used, not be more reliable than minis or even 1/4" jacks? Oh, and they are very colorful too.

I did, thanks! Now i need to work out a colour scheme for cv's & audio, and just how many i need. I'm also considering the system Buchla uses, of 3.5mm switching jacks for audio, and bananas for cv. It's a pretty smart way to keep track of a lot of panels
(apologies for hi-jacking a 1/4" thread )

No. There's just one wire in a banana plug patchcord. It relies on all your equipment having a common ground reference.

It's "One of these days I'm going to cut you into little pieces."

Props to whoever understands it.
