Please pardon the cheesiness of my writing to follow; I am a bit overexcited….

There I was perusing a Kickstarter page when I notice this briefcase full of old books and handwritten scraps of paper. That’s when the notion that someone was collecting these items as part of an adventure in a literary venue related to Dracula (in this case). The link is here:

https://medium.com/kickstarter/fact-checking-dracula-an-immersive-historically-accurate-take-on-the-horror-classic-f5dfae2cf0fc

Suddenly I developed a growing case of “Light Bulb Moment Disorder”, an ailment that knows no bounds! So here we have someone doing their own private investigation in fiction (or so they say) for the mystery and fun along the way. Well, that and perhaps some reward as well - who knows?

You can imagine it wasn’t long after that when I began thinking of ways to introduce the theme into our lives here at electro-music.com! As an example I thought of project threads. There are usually a few roots, one of which takes on the main content of the project and the others grow wildly in other directions. Like take for example the Lunetta Buildoff non-Competition. There is a main thread and several project threads around it. If someone chose to take on the adventure of following these threads and organizing them into some other form such as a booklet, it could be fun and/or profitable.

Another one might be the “Own Your Tone” (OYT) DIY guitar invention and that happened or never happened in that case. I might take that one on myself because I’ve developed an ever re-increasing desire to learn guitar. What better situation than to modify a guitar with the invention according to what we have learned, learn some basics of playing, and make sense of whatever happened in the threads on the forum from a legal and hobbyist perspective?

Well, this topic could go in unlimited directions which I’m obviously just realizing now. Please feel free to offer up your thoughts.

Les

With those two topics of "Quest" in mind, the Lunetta Quest and the Guitar Quest, I thought it might be wise to view more of the original Kickstarter material. The web page contained a video which described the building of a briefcase. Everything in it including the case itself was weathered from either a history of long use or a treatment to create the illusion of aged materials.

I watched as one by one the recipient of this deeply thought out work explored the contents: An old faded map of London, A letter from a period typewriter on classic yellow-brown paper with upturned edges and folds, a phonograph put on a player of the times, a few old photographs and some objects I don't recall.

Kickstarter supporters could purchase these items in groups or separately depending on their level of financial involvement and selection of support means. "Brilliant" I thought, "History meets Engineering". And now the ball is in our court; what is our response?

I must admit I don’t have the faintest idea what you are proposing...🤔

But it was intriguing enough that I read it twice... and decided to post this non-reply.

Onward! 😎

Then I have not written as clearly as I should, so here is more (and thanks for the encouragement).

Surely we are all familiar with the hobby of "Scrapbooking". It's often done by the mother figure of a family in which she keeps a large photo-book containing little mementos that remind her family of the events of their past. One could be the twig that rode on the rainy windshield wipers during their trip home from visiting Grandma's house. Another might be a scrap of cloth from the faded high school football uniform that needed replacement. Each one tells a story and she saves them in a scrapbook.

One of the things, or well part of it, is that I am proposing the creation of a scrapbook for our musical endeavors. This could hold schematic printouts, web links, thread posts, audio clips on a music playing device, and so on... In fact it may best take the form of a briefcase just like the original collection in the story linked to in the first post. So rather than a scrapbook we keep a scrap-case.

What do we do with this case? We could keep it, document it, sell it, reproduce it, give it as a present, many fates could befall this elegant monstrosity! The goal really is the collection of documentation fragments that together convey one drop of this ocean of wisdom that we call "electro-music.com".

Ahaaa! I get it... ephemera!

Interesting idea in that it is something like merchandise and something like a souvenir. It could have value for the right person in the right context.

Such a thing associated with one’s hero would be a desirable artifact ...

Such a thing associated with one’s past would be a keepsake ...

Such a thing without context would be a curiosity at best... junk at least.

Thank you for sharing 😎

Now with that encouragement it seems time to plan a more specific action. All the contests and crowd-whatever and daydreaming on Earth will not add up to a thing if I don't get a move on by making a scrapbook of my own.

Being a fan of breadboarding and having all the right supplies, I'm in the mood for a circuit that can fit on one or more breadboards. At first I'm recalling a sine-wave decaying circuit that I enjoyed in the past. That might make some good percussion if I hang it off of a sequencer.

Well, it's a thought and a trip through some tough territory in the wayback machine, tough being a detail we can discuss later. Either that or I'll scrap it all and do something completely different. The idea here is to re-explore my own history of circuit ideas and build a useful and/or interesting creature from my past.

With the idea of scrapbooking a continuation of recent work, I have drawn the attached image which is a schematic of a Wien Bridge oscillator in EAGLE CAD. The circuit is useful in that it produces a low-noise sinusoid that can be part of many music / synthesizer circuits. It will also be a focal point in the scrapbooking project(s) that I plan for the near future. Stay tuned!

Here we are, 1AM with Christmas sneaking up to us in preparation for it's big warm loving hug of a day approaching and I am at a loss of what to write! Oh wait it's about the thread content for starters. it's gotten too technical for Heaven's sake! I mean, there's a big huge schematic there in the previous entry; and this is Schmooze!

So here's the deal: we (or I actually I will abandon the technical component of the thread here and move it to my forum (or sub-forum actually) Which is under the DIY section (or forum) way yonder over there. This part remains for discussing the concept of scrapbooking in which we collect a bunch of goodies about a topic and store them in some form. So that's the deal.

In my personal situation we have the purchase of some little plastic organizers of the stacked drawer style to help separate parts from piles of bags and confusion remains a hopeful possibility. Also here I want to (or plan to at least) get out of my end-of-year laziness crunch. and actually sit in my chair in the workshop and reorganize some parts etc.

So good things are planned really soon,

stuffed with cookies,
Les
