Nice!
As it happens, I'm starting to put together a setup for improvised live stuff based around my G2 and an ESX1. It'd be nice to be able to ditch the laptop for some stuff. _________________ OVNI Soundcloud Purusha Soundcloud |

Fac,
Looking forward to having a listen to this when i am at home tonight as I have an ER1. Great but very quirky machine.. my left channel seems to have gone a bit wonky and is spitting out a noisy signal, sort of like digital noise over the waveforms.. really easy to hear on bass tones. So it is mono only for now.
Purusha,
Sounds interesting, I also have an ESX and G2(Engine). They tend to work pretty well together.. the grunge of the ESX is nicely balanced by the pristine G2. I have had a fair few jams with the two units together but have yet to do anything serious. Please post up anything you get finished/are happy with. _________________ iP (Ross)

If I do manage to post something, it'll probably from a live set.
I'm trying to get a simple rig together that'll allow me to improvise downtempo / chill-out sets without a laptop.
It's slow work at the minute though... _________________ OVNI Soundcloud Purusha Soundcloud |

Yeah I had hoped to do the same with a more techno/break persuasion but haven't been focused enough to get it done.
One thing I haven't really tested greatly but thought might be an issue is the midi clock on the G2 not locking into the clock from the ESX when you change patches/performances on the G2. Have you experimented with this at all?
I also have a machine drum that I wanted to incorporate into this live set up as well... but at the minute i tend to find myself spending all my time with one device or another instead of them all as a whole.. One of the down sides to getting a bulk of new kit at once. Last edited by iPassenger on Fri Nov 14, 2008 3:23 am; edited 1 time in total |

Good point. I've been experimenting with the sequencers on the G2 in that respect. I've produced some interesting results, but that's just using the internal timing. I'm also wondering how well the G2 would MIDI sync to the ESX. It would seem sensible to have the ESX as master.
So - it is on the plan of things to try, but these days everything's moving slow for me on the music making front (busy day-job, kids, DJing, organising & promoting a regular event etc.). Am getting most of my live performance kicks by playing keys/guitar support for a mate with his live project (OVNI - as per link in my sig). _________________ OVNI Soundcloud Purusha Soundcloud Last edited by purusha on Fri Nov 14, 2008 3:40 am; edited 1 time in total |

BTW - just noticed you're Sheffield based. Have we bumped into each other anywhere? I'm not a million miles away just North of Bradford.

Not sure fella.
I don't get out much at the minute too much other stuff going on, so probably not but aim to get out a fair bit more next year.
I'll check out the link when I am at home, work has no audio.
One idea I had for playing live to cover up the changes in patches and the re-start/re-syncs would be to mix to ambient file on my ipod.. Easy way I figure to cover up a stop/start. _________________ iP (Ross)

This is really good! Reminds me of early Autechre. |

Thanks for the comments.
Since I bought the G2 (almost a year ago), I decided to use it almost exclusively for live performances (not that I gig at all, but still). It's a great machine in that context. I only complement it with the ER-1 and a Boss DR-770 drum machine. The outputs from the drum machines go straight into the G2 so I don't even need a mixer. If I ever do a live show, I can carry all the rig by myself.
I also have a Korg ES-1, which is nice, but I wish had better effects. I have another jam on youtube using the ER-1, ES-1, and MS2000R, but that's a bit off-topic. _________________ My music: http://cdbaby.com/all/fac |
