CA3280 designs and LM301 question |
 |
|
I've managed to find some CA3280's cheap. I've read that these are the greatest synth diy chips of all time, ever.
I found these pages http://www.oldcrows.net/~patchell/archives/archives.html with some interesting articles and designs.
Anyone have any other designs for these chips?
Also in the oldcrow page there is a current source for the 3280 that uses a LM 301 op amp. What do the compensation pins do on the LM301? Could I just use a regular TL072 and get acceptable performance? Last edited by widdly on Thu Aug 05, 2010 10:16 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Yes! My new filter module, The Threeler, uses a pair of CA3280's. Three OTA sections are used for the filter elements and the fourth OTA section is used for VC resonance. Board fab and testing is in progress right now. Stay tuned.

Ian,
Why are you using 3280s? Why not use a 13700? They're so much cheaper....
Thanks

I was one of the first diy-ers to work with the 13600 when it first came out. It's a good device for many applications. But the 3280 is far superior in most respects. The new filter's topology is not the most stable in the world, and so I am specifying high-performance chips throught.
You want cheap? There are plenty of places to go for cheap.

Thank You for the response. I guess I thought an OTA was an OTA. My bad. I didn't realize the 3280 was such a better device.
Looking forward to the new filter, Ian.
