Hi,

I didn't find the right category/forum on electro-music to ask my question.
So here it goes: I am looking into different active speakers to use for small electronica gigs and sessions and was wondering what all of you guys use. I don't want to spend more than $400 each speaker, so Mackies etc. are out of reach. Generally the plasticky ones seem attractive due to their light weight. Originally I thought the JBL Eon's were the best choice but since then I have read a lot of complaints from people using these. A good alternative (though smaller and less power) seem to be the Yamaha MSR100. My general goal is to have speakers that can handle sessions with a drummer and also small gigs (100-200 people) I will be putting looped synths and also processed sitar and samples etc. through these speakers.

I'd be interested in knowing what others use for this purpose and what their experiences are!

If there is a better place on electro-music to post this, please let me know!

Philip

Hard to say, but I guess secondhand is the only option. I cannot imagine you can get anything like what you want new in shop for that price. I know Behringer has some dirt cheap gear that is supposed to be decent.

Yes, $400 per speaker won't get me great quality, but there are a few options out there for that price, e.g. Yamaha MSR100, several Samsons, JBL Eon, etc. What do people here play through at gigs? Any experience with Eon's or Behringer's or Yamaha's etc.?
If you play a small gig where you have to bring your own amplification, what do you use?
I've heard that Roland's keyboard amps are decent, but probably much heavier than the plasticky one's a la JBL Eon etc.

....i have the mackie 450's, and would have a hard time recomending anything else....there are the (newer) 350's that are a little cheaper. i'd recomend getting 1 450, and adding another later.
