MIDI - USB - Logic madness Subject description: a6 audionlink sync issues |

helloooo
!!
just wonderng if u guys could help me out with something .. pleaseee
i recently bought those audiolink MIDI - USB cables by alesis cuz i wanted to hook my my a6 straight to my laptop via USB ( since my current Audio interface doesn't have MIDI I/O) ...
http://www.alesis.com/usbmidicable
i thought this thing was gonna be one of those magical plug and plug devices ( as advertised ) and it was gonna make my a6 just pop up as a MIDI instrument once i opened my DAW ( logic ) ..
of course it hasn't been that easy ..
I bought my a6 second hand and ive had it for about 1,5 months and up to this point its been rock solid ( which is good considering i imported to Australia and it was a very expensive shipment )
now , because i havent got a midi controller to check wether theres something wrong with my A6 MIDI I/O and im a noob to the programming of the thing still i dont really know if im doing something wrong into the setup to this thing in logic or not , if i havent setup the a6 properly or not ,
any suggestions anyone ??
thanks heaps |

I dont think annything is wrong with your andromeda.
What exactly are you trying to do with logic?Do you want to automate parameters/controls on the andromeda with logic, control logic with the andromeda or both?
The andromeda sends and receives NRPN messages and I dont think Logic works with NRPN,I could be wrong though as I have never used Logic. You should be able to control simple things like note on/note off and pitch/mod wheel but using the front panel knobs to control things within Logic or vice versa, is going to be a bit more difficult.
There are a few threads involving this so search this forum for something like "a6 and logic".That way you can get and idea from other peoples experience until someone with more knowledge can chime in, as I dont have much experience using the andromeda's midi functions yet.
As far as midi devices being plug and play in the way you describe, there is no such thing really, unless the device has something called automap or the DAW has a template already there for the more popular controlers/control surfaces.
So for the more experienced people who will surely be able to help you more, what exactly do you want to do with logic and the andromeda? _________________ The Gnomes have learned a new way to say Hooray |

hey man .
thanks for ur reply and sry for being a noob haha ..
yeah , basically i just want to be able to sequence programs through logic on the andromeda , simple parameters like note on/off and velocity .
and
send note on / off and velocity to logic from whichever program im using on the a6 .. as in , when im recording the sound i want it also to record the notes played and how hard they were played so i can edit that later or whatever ..
im not really concerned about the front knob things ..
i had a look at the other threads but it didnt really make any sense to me ( lol) , ill spend some time reading it again ..
cheers !

No need to apologize for being a noob.I am one as well.
Within logic there should be some sort of main settings option, then under that should be an option for midi settings.Make sure logic is picking up your midi interface/usb-midi adapter.Open a new midi track in logic and make sure it is sending/receiving midi on channel 1 or something like "all channels".Once again I dont use logic so I am guessing here, but this is how I do it in ableton. The basics are the same. You need to make sure logic reads your midi input/ouput and designate a midi track to correspond with the same midi channel your andromeda with receive and transmit on.
Now on the andromeda go to the GLOBAL page and make sure TXMODE(soft knob 4) is set to LOCMID.Then make sure the MIDICH parameter(soft knob 5) corresponds with logic's midi input/output channel(say, channel 1).Next you need to enter the global MIDI page(soft button 3) and make sure that the CC TX and CC RX parameters are turned ON(soft knobs 5 and 6).
These are the basics on how to get your andromeda receiving and transmitting midi data. This is all it takes for me to control the things you mentioned with ableton live.I'm sorry I cannot be of more help...I am learning as well.Hopefully a more experienced user will offer some input and guidance.
Good luck and please let us know how it goes. _________________ The Gnomes have learned a new way to say Hooray |
