Does anyone know how the NL3's unison mode works? Clavia says it makes one voice sound like five. I'm wondering if the extra four voices are created using a pair of Bode frequency shifters.

Any ideas?

I have no idea how it's done on the NL, but usually you get a reduced number of voices at your disposal in Unison mode, since they are being used to create the Unison-effect.

There might be some optimizations possible though, is there any way to see/measure the amount of voices/polyphony left when using the unison mode?

I use a NL3. The unison mode doesn't eat up any polyphony -that's what's so great about it.

I guess it's either 5 frequency shifters or pitch shifters.

Or some quite elaborate multitap chorusing module. I tried to patch a NL3 unison effect on the G2 but never really came close. However, there is one big difference between the NL3 and the G2 and that is that the NL3 runs at a sample rate that is less than half of the sample rate of the G2. This might very well make the difference, as the NL3 unison always seems to sound more rough in the high than whatever I try to do on the G2.
