A Direct Approach to Sound Design

The String Studio synthesizer swaps the traditional oscillator, filter, and envelope pattern for real-life string instrument components. At the core of String Studio lies a new cutting edge string model interacting with picks, bows, hammers, fingers, frets, dampers, and soundboards. Through this direct approach, String Studio delivers stunning guitars, basses, harps, clavinets, bowed instruments, percussions as well as rich and animated tones that blend the warmth, naturalness, and density of real-life with unique and innovative timbres from yet unheard instruments.

The Applied Acoustics sound is da shit, or so I think. I´m a huge fan of their additude and aesthetic.

To be fair; I do beta test Tassman and Ultra Analog for them which I suppose might make my opinion suspicious but I would´ve said "no" to many other companies. I don´t think many other companies spend that much time on doing their own research. Nobody in hard or software that I know makes a sound I experience as as "tangible" as the A.A.S. one.

You mean it sounds good, or bad? (By that, I mean the old meaning of bad which is not good as opposed to the new meaning of bad which means good.)

*resists the temptation to call mosc grandpa*
;¬)

I mean it´s very good indeed. A.A.S. spends a lot of time and care on things like preventing aliassing and they have nice touches like a end stage that overdrives instead of cliping.

You should download the demo version of Tassman and give it a go. Don´t forget to also get my "His last song" preset from the user library there because that´s harpsychord with randomly breaking strings (resulting in loud pangs and non-functional keys) that I´m quite proud of, even if it´s not actually usable for anything but making people smile.

I realy like the A.A.S. people; they let me write realy long emails with crazy ideas, then actually considder implementing those. They in turn like me because my patches tend to find obscure bugs. I also get to sign non-disclosure agreements which makes me feel realy incrowd.

I´m so easy to please :¬)

Hey, I may be an old fart, but I'm not a grandpa. I guess if you said:

"It sounds like shit", then that would be bad

"It sounds like da shit", then that is good. A subtile difference in expression, but meaning is absolutely different. You are the second person in a short time to suggest I try out Tassman, so I will give it a whirl.

Yes, semantics is a decidedly tricky field.

:¬)

roughly everywhere where "da" is used instead of "the" it´s a positive thing. Speciffic cases incluced "da shit" which refers to the kind of thing or style you believe is far superior to others (for example Ibanez analogue churuses, D&R eq and Tom Waits on vinyl or listening to Rithem&Sound on excessively long drives through snowy mountains) and "da house" refering to tonight´s club, particularly if you are somehow involved with the evening. To complicate matters that last example should never be used seriously unless it´s 15 years ago and you are black. Clearly that´s rarely the case unless large quanitites of booze are involved.

I hope that helps resolve some of your questions.

Now I need to go look for my camera in order to properly report on tonight´s noise for this esteemed company.
