hi,

Does anyone have a DIY CMOS frequency divider schematic ?

something smaller than CGS Sub harmonic...
4013 based ?

Is this really use in a full-vco modular setup ?

There's here a short example :

i think this was released into the public domain, but if it wasn't then i'll take down this link (john has released a few schematics before on the SDIY list):

http://www.freeinfosociety.com/electronics/schemview.php?id=112

it's a simpler version of the one he sells. consult the faceplate to see what does what.

Maybe the simplest solution is to use a 4024 in a configuration like so (or similar)
http://www.milton.arachsys.com/nj71/img/Jen/SX1000/sch/osc_subosc.gif

but look! only square octave divided outputs Rolling Eyes ...maybe you need a wshaper

Hi:
In the last part of the EFM Mad Mouse Synth manual (Mods section), there
is a simple sub octave generator taked from the SH-101. Is based on a 4013.
I'm planning to build 2 to add to my Sound Lab Mini-Synth.
Here is a link to the pdf:

Sub OSC is really usefull on a (signle-vco) SH-101 ! really

But who has a 4013 audio divider in his setup and won't be able to sell it ?

This one works pretty well - I've got it in my setup.
Very useful to me.

<EDIT> also - you might look at the Ken Stone pulse divider. If you put audio into it it does in fact offer you divide by 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8 - all available simultaneously. I use it as a suboscilator as often as I do a clock/pulse divider. And, you can get some unusual beats out of it if you use it for percusion type sounds.</EDIT>

maybe the tracking would be an argument for using suboscillators instead of a 2nd VCO. the additional registers will be in perfect tune to the 1st register.

And in perfect phase.

Well, so 4013, 4024, 4040 and all CMOS 4xxx-based clock divider do some good subharmo generator.

Sonically, these are not pure, "precise" oscillator waveforms...
Good for basslines, "à la SH-101" !

I have 4024-based trigger dividers :

The fact that all waveforms are in phase and harmonically related sometimes lead to some cancellation.

Hi guys,

sorry to bring up an old thread.
Sebo did you build the Sub osc from the Mad mouse synth manual?
if yes how does it sounds?

This looks like a damned useful module. I'm really surprised nobody's done a batch of PCBs for something like this.

Hi
I did a stripboard layout, it's only my second layout ever Smile
I know it's ugly but I don't care Wink
I want to use it with the x0xb0x VCO I hope it will work good.
See if I have any mistakes please.

I never finished my SoundLab Mini-Synth, I get derailed building modules for my modular. I have to build some sub-octave generators for my modular too, but I always start building something else...

Thank you for your reply.

I didn't liked the sound of the sound lab so much so I sold it, but it's a fun project for advanced starters Smile
Can you Please go over my layout to see if I made a mistake ?

Cheers,
Isak E.

Pin 3 of the 4013 should be connected to the collector of the transistor, not to +12V.

Thank you.

I've updated the layout above, so if you guys want to try it out and give the results here that would be great.

cheers,
Isak E.

Necro post!

So i've just built one of these combined into a single module with 1/3 of the Yusynth 4017 divider and a 4069 clock generator which is normalled to either or both dividers. So the one module gives me a clock output and divisions of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,16,32,64,128.
I accidentally drilled an extra hole in the panel, so I also made a NOT gate for both sub-modules, because, well, I had to do something with that hole and the other half of the CD4069..

ANYWAY: I would recommend to anyone who build EITHER of the circuits here to add a protection diode from gnd to the input transistor base as Yusynth does in his 4017 divider. This way you can feed it a bipolar signal from anything without worrying about frying the input buffer transistor.

It triggers happily from square, triangle, sine, ramp etc, but obviously theres a teeny tiny bit of a delay with non-square LFO inputs before the signal gets high enough to trigger.

Necro post! [2]

Today I've finished this one that I've started after reading this topic and other ones on the same subject. I've tested with 9V and 12V and it was ok.
The pulse switches idea came from the SH101 sub oscillator.
I didn't care not having a -2 oct square wav option.
