Software Vocoder |
 |
|
can anybody tell me if there is any vocoder software available, as a VSTi or anything? I'm looking for something that i can use along with any synth in reason or cubase for example, and then just use my pc's mic input to record my voice with, in realtime. Is there such a thing?
thankyou SO MUCH for any help! _________________ .//VelkroSmaak |

thanks for the quick reply! i'm having a quick browse there now. do you know if such software even exists, do you know it's on that site, or is that just a VSTi resource that might have one? _________________ .//VelkroSmaak |

| There's lots of VSTi vocoders, so I'd just recommend you download a few a see which one you like...I can't say one is better than another. |

Reason does not handle audio in real time so, first you have to record the audio tracks in .wav format then use them _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

i fail to see a link to download even a demo on that site...
thanks for the other links, none of them seem to be in realtime though. does my soundcard suck, or are they designed not to be? i want my voice to change as i say it, not a few seconds later... _________________ .//VelkroSmaak |

Make sure your VST host is using your sound card in DirectX, or even better, ASIO mode. Don't use normal WDM (Windows Multimedia) drivers.
When assigning the audio ports in your VST host, there is usually a distinction between the various ways of communicating with your hardware.
Basically, one WDM style drivers go through the windows kernel, which is very slow. ASIO is the best, and DirectX the second best thing. These allow the host to bypass the normal kernel mixer and write directly to hardware.
Otherwise, the software might suck, but you should get a basic 16-band vocoder easily running in at least near real time (maybe 100ms latency) |

That's why I wrote "will be able to do it", as in "in the future" |

Isn't vocoding fun? I use it all the time on everything but vocals

Me too! Ok, one reason is that 97% of my stuff is instrumental but the vocoded vocals are used so much in all kinds of cheesy techno that it's hard to escape the notion of them making pretty much ANYTHING sound more like cheesy techno
Especially with more ambient stuff I use vocoder often with drums. A good companion would be a choir sound or a pad. Then just try out which one works better as carrier and which one as modulator. It works both ways, the result is just a bit different. _________________ For mind-boggling experimental music:
