hey all...this is a little differant than what i normally do, and i'll only leave it up a short time (we want people to buy the album). there has been copyright permission granted for this project.

see http://sandinista.guterman.com/ for more info on this project (a 25year aniversery tribute to sandinista with tracks by differant bands).

we (the lothars) did "the call up", a few things worth noting which are somewhat out of the ordinary (this was done in protools, not by me, but i did step in and fix problems here and there).

1. the main vocals are vocoded voice/theremin. i had to convince the "singer" not to sing, but to speak in a monotone. after both the vocal and the melody track (theremin) were recorded, i did the vocoding on an mam vf11 analog vocoder.

2. the "hup 2 3 4" army shouting was me saying the words, vocoding gwennie (the dachshund) barking....the siren sounds was gwennie singing.

3. the "chords" are ring modulated theremin (moogerfoger rm).

everything else is either loops taken from recording along with the bare bones, or in the case of the erie theremin stuff, whole takes.

if it were totally my project, i would have approached some things differantly, and found some things unacceptable, but overall, i like the result.

the biggest problem we had was some phantom crackling that was really subtle. in the end, it turned out to be a gate on a vocal processor being misused for theremin...i didn't hear it in the final mix until i was working on mastering it (not a good time to hear problems in an individual track). always listen to each track or layer separately to make sure nothing is going to bite you later.
enjoy,

deknow
