..looking at schematics my guess is that if one wants +5V pulses:
leave empty positions: R11, 13, 15, 22, 24 and 26
and install wire link for: R12, 14, 16, 23, 25 and 27
Please confirm that..

i found that one could improve the range of potentiometer P4 by connecting the CCW (pin1) via a 10k to GND.
if you use the module for audio in the first place, you could even solder a 100k resistor a ...
