Is it possible to modify an old Casio synth like the CZ-1000 to have 2 audio outputs so you could split the output signal and send the bottom half of the keyboard to one channel and the top half to another channel? Or is there a way to use external hardware such as a DI box in conjunction with the standard single audio out to split the signal? I want to send the low end notes to one speaker and the high end notes to another.

well heres my crack at it, let me say first that i started as a circuit bender, so i usually bends things to get what i want out of em. but mostly, i just have a good time and end up with no results Razz

i'd start with marking the solder nodes the speakers are wired too. (assuming it has speakers, i dunno- no research) Desolder the wires running from the speakers and attach some test leads to it. Hold some keys down on the top keyboard, and another set on the bottom and start poking around. You'll encounter many spots that might spark, might pop, might do nothing, but maybe just maybe... you'll find a magical connection that will only send one keyboard out to the speaker. Then, repeat for the other. Solder in line outs to the speaker wire connection, and then solder the speaker to the original marked notes.

That would be how i'd do it... but ya know... its just bender theology

It has no speakers , this is a keyboard casio attempted to sell to the 'professional' market

I have opened up one but never looked at the schematics. What you are asking for would be fairly hard to work out, being a digital synth - a lot of microproseesor stuff - first you need to find the schematics!

sounds tricky, could you do it via midi instead?

That synth is an early low end digital synth with a lot of very cute features. As far as a I can remember the filters were digital and also quite sad. However, the little thing is pretty unique. The envelopes are plenty and fun.
AFAIK, or as far as I understand the sound engine, there is no way to do what you want unless you simple make an external filter unit that will send the low notes to one channel and so forth.
I cannot remember if it has a stereo or a mono output. If it is a mono output then there is probably no internal midi feature for panning oscillators ( and there are 8 of them I think ).
