The core is nearly the same as the original but the surrounding circuitry is different. It can sound like the original and SO much more.

Here's a link to the module page:

Thanks,
p.

Here are the schematics and BOM. Tell me if there any mistakes/inconsistencies.
At the moment I am no longer selling these pcbs.
The attached is for the benefit of those who already bought/have these.

hey peng,
can't see anything on your site, just the navbar to the left (IE6, WinXP), neither at home, nor at work.

Yes. this is a known problem. My ladyfriend who built the site hasn't figured out how to fix it yet. With Firefox and IE above 6 it should be good.

We're stumped so any suggestions are welcome.

don't have any clue about the site.

anyways, how much will the PCB be? what is the current source like? i wanted to ask just because i have coincidently already designed a PCB myself last month, but not etched yet. it uses a simple 1V/oct current source utilizing common unmatched transistors.

I'm don't know the price yet. I'm making the pcb a little more DIY friendly and correcting some silkscreen errors.

The current source is is a typical op amp summer to the base of a matched PNP pair. The pcb is made for a discrete matched pair or 8 pin DIP (SSM2220, etc.).
There is also an op amp biasing the tied emitters, much like a VCO current source.

Input has gain so you can distort things a bit if you want. The modules I'm making only have one input but the pcb will accommodate three.

Cutoff control will go down to completely off.
FM 1 is bipolar
FM 2 is switchable between EXP or AC coupled linear modulation (if you use a three position switch, C&K7211, it could be EXP, LIN, or AC LIN).

The original synth has the resonance trimmed to just below oscillation. My modules can go past that into oscillation. When oscillating the levels jump up quite a bit (approx. double). It's kind of nasty (in a nice way). There is a trimmer to set max resonance level so if you want a faithful clone you can trim it so it won't oscillate.

The VCA circuit can be completely independent of the VCF. The circuit is based almost entirely on a Mike Simms EDN article. It uses both sides of a LM13700. A huge improvement over the standard 3080 / 13700 VCAs.
Try it out if you haven't already.

There is some normalling which can be left out...but it's one of the best things about this VCF!
VCF out -> VCA IN
VCA out -> FM 2 IN
odd warpings, pitchshift like sounds, subtle bends, sheer chaos and noise.
Lot's of fun.
Try it with want you got.

great features, peng. well done! Very Happy

it's obvious much more than a simple korg delta filter clone.

the Demos sound good !
I take one, depending on price and time maybe two. ( January would be cool, or later )

oh, if you anyway change the boards:
please make a third CV input .
Two with inverting would be fine but one is finally allready nice .
And it would be fine to have own pads for the Inverter, this way one is free how to use the inverter
= polarised Pot, or inverting with a switch ( what i prefer and do )
But it's not that important

thanks for this offer !

There is a third one. Forgot to list it here:
FM 1 bipolar (easy to use a switch if you prefer)
FM 2 with attenuator
1V/Oct input. Does not track perfectly. It's not temp compensated but the expo pair are matched. It wasn't one of the design goals to make it track perfectly. It tracks well enough for me but I wouldn't expect it to track your VCOs perfectly. I'll try to make an alternative tempco resistor footprint. That way you can experiment with temperature compensation if one wants or not worry about.

FM 1 and FM 2 expect 5V CVs, but can deal with anything within the rails.

Thanks all for the interest. I'm trying to get everything together so I can place an order next week. Won't arrive until Xmas or just after. If all goes well, then January is the likely month I can ship these out.

It has a been months since I planned to do the Delta VCF run. I was delayed (let's leave it at that!).

Here's the update.

I placed an order for ten. This is the prototype run. If it checks out OK then I'll order more. I'm estimating that there are 20 or so people who have been wanting/waiting for this pcb. I'll probably order 50 to start with unless more people express their interest.

Here is the run down followed by some attachments:

PCB is 3.5" X 5"
2 oz. copper
Lead free HASL

The traces and pads are large to withstand multiple reworkings. Silk screen has text for pots indicating pin 1 (typically connected to ground in the standard input attenuator configuration) and other useful hookup info such as name and pin function for some. Jacks and trimmers are also named.

2 pin MTA.100 header for CV normalling schemes

Double footprints for filter core caps (use 5mm Wima or the clear foil polystyrene), single turn trimmer (Bourns or Vishay (Vishay is half the price)), and power supply header (4pin MTA156 or 6pin MTA100). There is also an extra 4pin MTA156 header at a different angle for frac rack builders.

I still have to clean up the schematics and write up a builders guide. Should be done with this by the time I get the prototype batch (approx. 2 weeks).

First pic is a screen shot of the pcb (I use FreePCB which is GREAT!!).

other pics are my Fracanana version (fracanana.com will be up and going shortly), and the silver face 1/4" version (dotcom/Moog size) shows normalized signal flow (follow the arrows).

Get in touch, anyone, if interested.

Thanks,
p.

WOW! The frac version looks great! I thought I was going to be the first to have color matched jacks/knobs, but you beat me to it. We even have the same color scheme: blue cv in, green audio in and yellow audio out.

Hi Peng,

I'd be interested in two or so, what sort of price are you thinking for the boards?

Ta,

Bad

PS that Fracanana looks really very cool...

Two boards for me.

The frac layout looks cool... but any chance you'll also offer 1/8" frac version as well? i for one would be more likely to purchase...
