Subject description: How to set or change dac, etc.

I have seen in the examples how to select and assign the desired MIDI input, but I don't see an example of how to vary the adc or dac device. Can someone give me a clue? It's probably on page one of the user's guide, but I must not have seen it.

Thanks, Scott

Of course I had to post this right before I pretty much found found the answer! I see how one can start ChucK from the command line, passing whatever values for the adc and the dac which are wanted. But still, how do you do this from miniAudicle?

Well, it seems that from within miniAudicle, you click on Edit, then Preferences, and you can change it right there. Although I still don't know about how to do that from the actual code...

One might get the impression that I talk to myself incessantly, but that really is not the case.

That's right. This is because those options take effect when the VM is (re)started and code runs inside of the VM. The dac will affect the way in which the VM works (with regard to sample rate and so on) so this can't be changed while the VM runs.

Hope that clarifies?

I guess all devices are not created equal... after a bit of consideration, what you explained made perfect sense. Thanks!

Exactly, and the way that we use the device in may be affected by our needs at the moment. You can -for example- trade a higher sample-rate and thus sound quality for more CPU usage.
Code:

chuck --probe

...will give you a list of the available devices with their capabilities.
