More LF442 replacements: TL072 (low noise), TL062 (low power)
More LF444 replacements: TL064 (low power)
TL082 and TL084 are also options. |

i think that sticky means
the post will stick on top of the list no matter what.
so it will not get buried by time. _________________ Association of experimental electronics

I'll probably do the same for your veroboard designs as soon as the become more 'buried'! |

On the subject of substitutes I’ve been thinking about the 1N914 diode and whether it could be replaced by the 1N4148?
In the partslist for the 1V/Octave Voltage Controlled Oscillator the diodes are only refered to as High Speed Sw Diodes. Could the 1N4148 be used here as well? _________________ /Per

The 1N914 and the 1N4148 are almost exactly the same. I haven't come across a circuit which quotes one and doesn't work with the other. You can however get diodes that switch faster than either of them. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

I can't see anything wrong with it.
I'm not an expert at reading Op-Amp specs though.
Pinout, and power supply are fine, so I'd give it a go. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

LF444 is a JFET input opamp, LM324 isn't. So no. |

By the way, I'm currently building RJW's VCO and found that replacing the LF411 and LF442 with their TL "equivalents" doesn't always work. I can't get the 1V/Oct scaling right with these substitutes in. So the exact specs might be essential in some applications.
This might also affect the LF444 used in the SL's oscillators. I got mine to work with TL064's, but judging from my experience with the VCO, the original LF might have been better. |

thanks for the info.
the "equivalents" are picked up whit only equal pinnouts . not by the specs
Ray W wrote: | Op Amp Substitution?
Pretty much any quad JFET input op-amp with the same pinout will do to replace the LF444 and pretty much any dual JFET input op-amp with the same pinout will do to replace the LF442. I chose these because they draw very little current and they are still in full production. There are many many JFET input op-amps in full production. Search for "JFET input" on your favorite part suppliers website and they'll be there. |

I should probably add that my LF411 and 442 are still on order, so although I can't get the VCO to work properly with TL061 and TL062 replacements, I can't yet say it does work with the LF's! I'm just assuming that the reason I can't get it tuned is because I tried replacements. All other components are as specified and it does work fine apart from the tuning. |

Etaoin,
This is a bit off topic. Do you mind starting afresh in a new thread?- as I want to try and keep this thread reference material as far as possible- and of course open source- and no need for locking it. Thanks!

I was trying to explain that it was wrong to include my comment at the top of this thread. If I say that elsewhere, it's of not much use. I'd suggest just removing my messages from this thread. |

No offense mate, but I've got enough things on my plate right now- than having to chase list members who aren't thinking before pressing return. (This goes for everyone btw!)
I hope you understand
If you've got a component which works as a substitute for any component on Ray's site- then by all means- put it here. But if you have a problem with a substituted component listed on this thread, then please start a fresh thread- then everyone can gain knowledge from your discovered experiences- otherwise everything just gets buried.
You could also include a link in your new post so people understand where you are coming from? _________________ ACHTUNG!

Yeah,
Ray said there's some specific problem with the TLXXX series, I think it was in the VCO, can't remember, but apart from that they're fine. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

Just a little warning.
You can't always substitute 13600 for 13700. 13700 have linearisation diodes, 13600 does not.
If Rays design uses these diodes you can NOT use the 13600 in stead of the 13700.
I do not know if this is the case though. _________________ Stay Cool
