Interesting and original melodies now becoming redundant |

As time goes by and that so many songs and soundtracks and orchestral pieces being composed, I am finding that many of the music I am hearing and composing is in many ways resembling some other form of music.
Using common instruments like piano/keyboard and guitar to compose songs really limits the scope of whats possible after all those centuries of music composition.
Sometimes I can make flowery arrangements but fundamentally the underlying melody is always basic.
On the other hand, using exotic instruments and alternative composition tools such as sequencers/trackers mostly turns music into beats, stutters or hard to follow patterns.
I am just thinking out loud some of the things I am trying to get around if anyone has suggestions, I would appreciate it.
I alot of the music on the electro-music is sometimes very orginal I admit but very few people I know would be willing to listen to it! |

There is always new music, but not all of it filters through to the general population, and may get lost in the churning on of history. I would not say that any particular combination of instruments have been exhausted either, and any new music has to be the result of established trends. Anything that "feels" new is just as likely to be the result of perception as it is a revolution in composition, technology or social structure.
In other words, it's all in the mind.
Having said that, I can't help but agree with you in many ways, it seems there isn't a lot of genuinely original breakthroughs in music for the last decade at least. Seems in many ways a little stagnant after many decades of fast but steady evolution in culture, technology and art, hand in hand in hand.
I'm sure things will change though, when it's ready. _________________ Muied Lumens Sub Forum

This might seem like a joke but it's nonetheless true.
I'm one of those people who does not care. |
