hi !

i'm buildind - try to building - a crackle synthesizer like this one

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GY-XunukSHQ
https://vimeo.com/1204085

i've already build one crackle box with this vero and know it's time to make the bigger one.

there are some information and picture on this site
http://www.polynominal.com/steim-cracklebox/index.html

i already have the "touch" panel, a buffer/mixer for line out and almost the amplifier (it will be base on a lm 386).

the controls on the crackle synth are :

a FM like (send one crackle on the in of the other) crackle 1 in 3 / 3 in 2 / and 2 in 1 with a on/off switch and an amount for each.

A pitch control (the 1M resistor of the schematic is replace by a pot - may be a 10M but for mine i have a 5M and a 5M resistor that can be connect in serie)

A keyboard control on/off for each crackle.

know i have a lot of trouble with the keyboard design...
i really can't figure out how to make it work.

I assume that it will act on the resistors (the 5M pot and 5M resistor) that act on the pitch of the crackle

is someone have made a thing like this before and can help ?

thanks

I have started from the steim circuit and derived a very similar circuit with no hard to find parts (all discrete) and a couple of small enhancements.

http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-64453.html

I also found that interconnecting a couple of them allowed for some pretty wild noisemaking. I have never gone beyond 2. But I also found they make interesting processors to feed other audio through. I have sent a simple synth through which was fun. And my current favourite setup is to send a contact mike through.

I would definitely recommend an output transformer (1:1 or similar) for isolation.

I would recommend sticking with the touch contact operation and not keyswitches as many good sound variations come from light vs heavy touches that create circuits with varying resistance.
