This is working without a net. My musical partner on this Johnny Carrera, would occasionally throw out some stuff on our gigs that I had never played before. And this was one of those times. I'd always keep an eye on him for some kind of signal as to what may or may not be coming next. I thought this came out pretty great though. Nice trad off on the instruments, kept the vibe solid for the whole track, and I didn't get too crazy with backgrounds and bleeps and bloops on the KAOSS Pads. It's fun to hear some of the "usual sounds" of our duo pop in and out of this track. The video footage is oublic domain, fast-forward, night-time driving scenes.

This is a recording of a live performance.
I like this version as the duo had been really getting the tech kinks worked out and we were incorporating more effects with our synths into the performance. But it's still very much what the original concept was.
I hope you like it. It's 11 minutes and 9 seconds.

Here's the blurb I'm working on......
“La Raza” is the result of a collaboration between Noah Peterson and Art Martinez.
Noah Peterson is primarily a saxophonist, but has spent years exploring music and technology with an emphasis on looping devices. He has performed all over the Unites States with his “Solo Sax Sessions” and has international airplay as a jazz artist. He also creates electronic music throughout a wide variety of genres under his name, as a solo and collaborative project called Widespread Noise, and has a dub/reggae collaboration called O.M.N.I. that has released 6 albums and an ever increasing number of singles.
Noah and Art met several years prior when collaborating on a Christmas album. Art contributed the track, “An Art Martinez Christmas.” In 2022, Noah was awarded an Individual Artist Grant from the City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts and Culture to put on a live looping performance of original, electro-cumbia music.
Noah asked Art to be a guest artist at the performance to do some impromptu rap and jamming. After the show, Noah asked Art to write lyrics for an instrumental track.
The underlying track had Cumbia rhythms over a House beat with synthesizers providing effects and arpeggiated lines. After Art recorded the vocals; breaks, field recordings, and effects were added in to enhance the verses and add drama to the track.

This was a live recording at King William Park in San Antonio, TX. This was for a Yoga in the Park event activation as a part of "A Day in Southtown" a community event and beneifit for SMARTsa.org.
I played a Novation Mininova to accompany the class. It was a chilly day. I thought the whole album came out rather nice. Though. I still enjoy listening to it.

“La Raza” – Noah Peterson featuring Art Martinez
“La Raza” is the result of a collaboration between Noah Peterson and Art Martinez.

Art Martinez is a singer, rapper, and guitarist. Heavily influenced by Eminem and Tenacious D, Art started a band called Art Martinez and the Sofa Kings and played solo shows around San Antonio singing, rapping, strumming, and slapping his guitar for beats accompanying his clever and comedic lyrics. Through his DJ experiences he began incorporating more Spanish styles and rhythms into his own music while incorporating looping technology for backing tracks.
Noah and Art met through Nick Pacheo when collaborating on a Christmas album. Art contributed the track, “An Art Martinez Christmas” which features Art’s signature comedic style.

At long last a a new release from Widespread Noise!!!

Titled "Heathkit" it is an ambient noise recording of 12 tracks. The instrument is the Heathkit Square Wave Generator. Additional effects include delay and a Wah pedal.
Widespread Noise is a sometimes solo, sometime collaborative project exploring a range of technologies (loopers, pedal, and sound generators) to make sound. Sometimes tonal, often not, Widespread Noise explores the fringes of music and sound.
This is a digital release.
I love the pure tone of the Heathkit. There's nothing quite like a square wave. This was a lot of fun to make.
The tune names are reflective of things going on in my life (A Devastating Loss, A Little Distracted, Feelings) the actual recording process (Echoes, Wah, The Enveloping) and some humor and commentary on the sounds themselves (Idle By, The Last Song of the Sirens, and No One Is Listening To Me.)
Videos may come at a later date. Until then.. enjoy haunting, occasionally pleasant noise of "Heathkit" on Spotify.

This is from my project Widespread Noise. This release "A Devastating Loss" from the recording Heathkit is all square wave noise, with no tempo.
I came across the Heathkit when cleaning out a lab. I plugged it in and the sound was pure and undefinable. I'd been itching to sit down and make some tracks with it for a long time.
Finally got around to doing it. This is one of the finished pieces.
This is a noise track made on the Heathkit square wave generator. The video footage is of the San Antonio Riverwalk in the King William Neighborhood.
Together it's a collaboration of loneliness, loss, desperation, and sadness. The wailing and mourning of the Heathkit is an expression of pain.
