The description of the Cyndustries VC Tabla module is, to me, too good to be true. Would be a very useful tool. Any of you ever seen or heard one ?
I have no idea what modules would be needed to patch to it for a novice to use.
Keeping my fingers crossed here !

I think whats going on is she's adding knobs and rehousing existing digital units. My understanding is in the context of indian music you'd traditionally use these digital backing things in "set it and forget it" mode to solo over on another instrument. So I guess whats significant is these things are like auto backing that's traditionally constant once set up and Cyndustries is giving you CV control on the knobs for expermental use. The tampura does sound interesting since it gives you control on aspects of the mix of samples in the drone.

Also be aware that Cyndustries can take a long time to deliver stuff.

Thanks N.D. and I hope your patient waiting will bear something wonderful.

Somehow the thought of a small group in California with soldering irons in hand appeals more to me than a giant Japanese mega-manufacturer that is cranking out motorcycles, boat motors, and pianos.

Your observation about the VC Tabla is the very thing that makes it fascinating and very useful for me. As a stand-alone unit it could later interface with the Kurzweil PC2R that I'm currently saving toward, or later on a RME Voyager....
But, searching high and low on the vast Internet finds NOT ONE owner of this Cyndustries module who posts any success or failure with it. Seems very odd.

Well not if there's an incredibly long wait.

Hi Folks,

I'm kinda new to the forums (although I signed up 2 years ago).

I have one of Cynthia's Tabla modules and I've had it for over a year now. I brought it to AHNE 2006 and it can be seen hiding behind some Buchla 200e modules here:
http://www.alt-mode.com/AHNE2006/AHNE2006-Pages/Image6.html

It is an interesting module. You have VC control over pitch and tempo which can make for some wacky backing rhythms! One quirk is that incrementing or changing the pattern can often cause a funky chirp in the output.

If you have questions about the module, let me know. I can try to answer them.

Eric

howdy. on a related note, I have some info on circuit-bent electric tablas here:
http://ericarcher.net/devices/taalmala/. They aren't voltage controlled however.

This looks great, thanks ...would save a ton of money doing it yourself.
Cynthia used the Riyaz Pro Digi Tabla.
For 'comic relief', I really should bring mine to the Festival. It sounds pretty good by itself and if I bring the Eventide along, it could be a lot of fun.

FYI: Somebody appears to be selling one on Cyndustries' Yahoo discussion group.
