I bet people with 1000's of dollars worth of studio equipment will be distracted from making good music by this mobile telephone.

Actually, your reaction Carlo, reminds me of the same reaction the Musicians Union took when synthesisers first arrived in the 1960's and 70's. Of course they were totally wrong! Cool

Laughing you'd be surprised then ... auto tune can both be off and on (except for the drum thingies and the mic, those have no autotune option) ... when its on it does only have a hand full of scales .. chromatic / maj / min / bues / pentatonic / wholetone / mixolydian - in any key and you can change your A from 432 Hz to 448 Hz.

Yo! I have auto-tune now!

It does have a bit of time lag, not much though.

And it wants voice levels higher than I'm comfortable with, it's a bit of a bummer this cant be set. There seems some AGC to be involved, as sometimes it will actually trigger on soft sounds, but then a bit later I really need to raise my voice levels to make it work.

Rolling Eyes

there are 2 reasons why I will not get one:
1) I don't need other toys, I have plenty of them
2) I would have a hard time with my 10 years old son

We had "school concerts" as they were called when I was around 15 or so? Anyway, some band or some orchestra would play then and explain about their music. On one occasion Thijs van Leer ran the show ... I didn't like the man very much at that time ... also at that occasion I got an electric shock from touching something on the stage ... so ... I'm not really into taking This as an example - although that video is nice of course Laughing

I've used Voice Memo on my iPhone to record musical ideas if I think of any while I'm driving my car (no accidents so far! Laughing ).

Voice Band might work for me.

Pretty cool! I wish Apple would include a mic in the iPod touch.
I can do without the cheesy camera in the iPhone, but a pocket voice/memo recorder, not to mention all the other apps that use audio input sure could use it. You have to use an external mic on the touch ;(

That "Cheesy" camera, for what it is worth, is excellent. I've taken pictures with the iPhone camera that have ended up in publication! As long as you don't expect too much out of it, the camera is a lifesaver. If you look at page 9 of this pdf, "the house that needs little fuel", the accompanying photo was taken with that 'cheesy' camera!! Evil or Very Mad

And before you shout "out of focus", think Robert Capa/ Magnum. Most of his pix were outa-focus too. Wink

Very Happy

Give me a mic on the touch, over a camera.

I got Voice Band. It seems to work best with the headphones plugged in.

Somehow the mic on my iPhone is more sensitive when the included phones are plugged in.

I struggled however to get the snare sound to trigger on the Bass Drum & Snare instrument. The help dialog says I have to say "Baa" for this instrument. We shall see.

Maybe the gain is different for the plug-in mic.

When you dont use the plug-in mic, can you adjust the sensitivity of the built-in mic?

Is your headset from Apple, or a 3rd-party?

I use the headset that Apple provided with my iPhone 3GS.

I did not notice a sensitivity adjustment for the audio input (mic) but will check.

This is really cool. I'm old, and this is great! Just because some guy records a stupid song on it doesn't mean that it's not a great tool. Being able to write like this seems just completely natural. When you see some musicians play, they are doing the same thing, accept they have mastered their instrument.

Now it doesn't matter, masters can retire! Not.. Shocked
