Hitler upset about Tebow victory over the Steelers
For our non-American friends, Tim Tebow is a 1st year quarterback for the NFL team the Denver Broncos. He is a bit controversial because he is a Christian missionary type, and experts say he lacks the skills to succeed at his position. In fact, his statistics stink, but he and his team have been winning nonetheless. Last Sunday he and his team beat the very heavily favored Pittsburgh Steelers, let by their quarterback, Big Ben Rothlesberger.
We are stuck with Der Untergang until we get the big Spielberg Pol Pot movie. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

?? Well.. at least the call for a drastic reduction in missionary positions is an interesting development.. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"
I've been reading a lot about meme theory lately. Prayer is a very strong meme, much more intense than Der Untergang. I read this book called Viruses of the Mind; I've been infected. _________________ --Howard

I'll provide it.
I'm close to finishing "Atlas Shrugged". This is what I think about it:
The first half of the book was a struggle between throwing the book down in boredom and frustration, what with the protagonists ambling slowly about with nothing interesting happening, and wanting to keep reading so as to know what the hoopla is about. The second half picks up a great deal of steam and gets wildly interesting in light of modern politics.
I'm taking away what I consider the good points of this novel: that we as a species need to foster our integrity, creativity and productivity. These items are clearly strong guiding themes in this story, and because of this, I find it incomprehensible that wingnuts, Tea Partiers, and such uphold this story and Rand in general as a champion of their idiot causes. It's like those so-called "fundamentalist" Christians who believe everyone who disagrees with them must die, messages of Jesus Christ regardling love and compassion notwithstanding.
My two complaints are trivial in light of the overall story, but are nonetheless irritating to me personally: 1. Dagny and Hank seem to view nature as something to defeat and replace with the works of man, and 2. Rand was clearly a flaming racist bigot, as illustrated by Galt's radio speech in which all references to India and Asia are degrading comments. These, however, do not detract for me the moral of this novel, which I see not so much as about the enshrinement of capitalism as I see it about the upholding of moral integrity in the face of a ruling elite that does nothing but loot everyone else, as well as upholding the values of creativity and exercising one's mind as the most important asset one can possibly possess. _________________ There's an invisible radio gnome playing a gong from a flying teapot - don't miss out!
I've read all of her books and watch the movies too. I like virtually any movie with Gary Cooper so the Fountainhead is really pretty cool.
I never really understood all this philosophy stuff especially WRT the right wing, but I recently saw a film that is basically a very good lecture about Nietzsche and the Nazis which explains a tremendous amount to me, and it emphasizes the importance of philosophy on these right wing movements. This film by the title, Nietzsche and the Nazis, is available on YouTube and Netflix. I highly recommend it. It's not all that entertaining, and it's a long slog to get through it, but it is very informative, and it will change your viewpoint on the Nazi movement. With the background of the or their philosophy, what the Nazis did actually is understandable, if not forgivable.
Ian Rand and was very much influenced by Nietzsche. That's why I mention this.
Well this right-wing capitalist bullshit, philosophy, is based on Darwin's discovery of the survival of the fittest. They think that nature, or God, has created a system where the superior, creative, intelligent, strong, whatever, dominates over the inferior. This translates directly to human beings. They see it natural and therefore required that the superior human, and groups of humans, dominate and succeed over the other inferior ones. Anything that speaks of collectivism, responsibility for one's neighbors, love and compassion, has no place in nature and should have no place in human behavior.
I think Ian Rand is so popular because she took this philosophy and added the concept of enlightened self interest which basically says that strong man, or as she called him, the reasonable man, will find it in his own self interest to take care of the poor man, so the philosophy must be good and moral; acceptable to American sensibilities.
As an aside, it is interesting that the Nazis hated capitalism. Their strong group was racially based. The capitalists hate the poor; their strong group is the rich people. The right-wing Christians hate the nonbelievers; their preferred group is, of course, believers in Christ. _________________ --Howard

It it is quite remarkable because Paxton early on establishes a focus on what they actually did and not just on what the ideology possibly might mean. A good read. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"
