Can Nomad generate sound WITHOUT Nord Hardware? |
 |
|
I have the Nord Mod Editor 1.4 which can generate sounds WITHOUT any hardware.
I also do have a Nord Micro with the editor.
My question is: can the NOMAD editor generate sounds on its own just like Editor Ver 1.40?
What is missing that it can't produce sounds?
Thanks in Advance |

No, Nomad can not do that.
The Nord G2 editor can not do it either, but there is a separate program called the Nord Modular G2 Demo which can make sound but that one can not be used to control a G2.
What is lacking is the sound engine, the G2 demo has a built-in emulation of the G2 hardware. _________________ Jan

I have a couple tangential questions for Jan (or anyone else out there!). I'm looking into finally picking up a G1 (NR2X owner). Is there a way to make sure I'm solid on the PC/software side of things before I take the plunge?
I have the NME v3.03, nomad, and the G2 demo on Windows 10, (also have 7 on a laptop). At first I thought things weren't working in the NME because I wasn't getting any sound out of it. Thankfully I found this thread and that set me straight. Previously I had been trying to test out the patches on the NME (like in the G2 demo), unaware that there can be no sound without the G1. So I was trying to get the NME to recognize key presses from my external gear (with no luck) and also tried to use the key floater, which wasn't registering my key presses either. Are these just symptoms of me not having a G1 hooked up?

hi lakevillain -
Yeah you need a G1 then, the editor is just that - an editor.
The hardware communicates with the editor over two MIDI cables (and it is a bit picky on the MIDI interface used), but it should just work in win10 - I've used it that way.
The G1 has an etra MIDI in/out to connect external gear to it .. which could also be the PC (but needs an extra MIDI port then), or an external keyboard or whatever.
The same holds for the micro modular.
And .. for in case .. the G2 communicates over USB, which needs a proper driver (from the Clavia / Nord site) .. but it works fine here on win10 too - I've given up to use the mac for it. It's editor will not make sound either, but the demo will (as a standalone thing). _________________ Jan

Ok, cool. Yeah I was reading up on issues people have had with the MIDI interface. It seems like people have had luck with the M-Audio Uno and the Midisport.
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions! |

Just wanted to pop back in here and say thanks again! Picked up an M-Audio Uno and it's working great with my new G1! Hopefully I'll be making some cool patches I can share. |
