Learning about phasers tonight I was wondering about how to make one in Wren. There is a PhaseDistortion module but I don't think that's the same thing?

According to a basic article a phaser is a series of all-pass filters and that's easy enough. I'm curious then about how to add modulation. For example a typical phaser might have modulation for sweep, resonance, rate, etc. What would be a way to emulate this in Wren?

I would just use one of the delay modules, fed back trough a mixer module .. you can then modulate the delay time (dly input) and the feedback amount (and/or polarity of the feedback - most mixers have a built in VCA on all inputs).

You can also try feedforward, mixing the original and the delayed signal in a mixer module, again modulating the delay time.

The latter is how it originally worked with a tape recorder being used as a delay unit .. the delay time being changed by a hand slowing down / and letting go the supply reel.

The allpass filters used for this at later times provide a simulation of that tape delay with analog electronics.

Edit: oh .. that was about flanging instead of phasing, but that does not change the ideas .. it's mostly a matter of how long the delay times are.

For example ... made it stereo to have some spreading around the head when using headphones.

Change mod speed / mod range / mixer feedback / delay times to get flange, pahase or chorus effects. I've set it up with pretty short maximum delay times, long can be nice too .. would want to make the mod speed LFO go slower then prolly.
