Repaired and playing beautifully.
With "Batalhas" in the front, strong battle sound, a typical portuguese organ from XVIII century.
It's amazing
If I can I'll record something and drop it in here, despite being in a church I think God wont be mad with me. Rolling Eyes

Beautifull, I'm sure God would would be pleased, just as we would, to listen to some samples posted here :-)

Hmm, and if not there sure is some intelligent design fault somewhere ... anyway, I'd love to hear it.

Unfortunatly I don't repair pipe organs Crying or Very sad
I am doing an Art Inventory for the Brotherhood of that Church and this pipe organ is one amazing piece that I thought was broken but it is in a very very good condition.
I am waiting for permission from the Headmaster to play while the church is closed to the public.
Next week I will take a MD recorder to get some sounds and I'll do some more details of it (keyboard, pedals).

It’s so wrong that an instrument of that period would be in a chamber and not in an integral wooden case. Do you know how that came about?

Some time after my last message about this instrument when I was preparing to record some samples of it, the Headmaster died from cancer. Never told anyone about his disease afraid that his work could be affected.
He made a great job in that place and this instrument is a reflex of that.
In the meanwhile I had to go to another part of the country and never got the opportunity to do the samples there.
I hope that I can go back there as soon as possible to record it.

By the way, this instrument is to big to be in an integral wooden case. That would be an enormous effort and very difficult to transport without damaging it. This is an original piece of the portuguese XVIII century and that was the way they did things, big. Can you imagine life and music in that time?
In that century happened the Lisbon Earthquake

Thanks, I was not aware that non-integral cases were used that early. But I do not think that size was the reason. I do not know the dates but initially organs were built entirely on site. When they were/are factory built they are completely disassembled (individual chests, sans pipes, are moved intact of course)

I'd like to welcome jono back to the forum and thank him for allowing me to use his organ picture for the cover of "Organ Reworks". Wink

"Organ Reworks" was inspired by a series of concerts celebrating the centenary of Olivier Messiaen's birth in 2008.
The church acoustics and the powerful output of the pipe organ are real world tools not accessible to the common artist due to obvious impracticalities (i.e. size).
Hence the necessity to adapt and - why not? - update.
The source material was gathered from old public domain vinyl records available in the www.europarchive.org and from actual field recordings of the great pipe organ of "Igreja Senhora da Conceição" in Porto, Portugal (picture below).
