Patched out version as a start for a module synth? |
 |
|
Hi!
I'm planning to build my first Sound Lab Mini Synth as soon as my paycheck arrives and I have some questions.
I want a ADSR so I'm going for the the patched out version of the synth and then buy a ADSR also. That would work, right? I thought that maybe this could be the start of a bigger module project.
This brings me to the next question. If I'm planning a bigger module synth, how am I going to do with the power supply? If I use banan jacks must every module share ground or something?
I also planned to buy a sequencer to control it but I would like to have a keyboard too. I don't want to build my own, it seems difficult. (Is it?) All I have at home is a Roland JUno 6 that don't have any CV out. Can I mod it somehow so I can use it to control my synth? |

Hm.
Try another one:
If I'm planning to build two soundlabs and in the future add more mudules how am I going to do with the osc sync? If I end up with lets say 6 VCO's, four of them comes from the soundlabs and I want to be able to sync all of them them together in different ways, how do I do that? |

about the juno, yeah get a midi-to-CV converter. EFM has some kits and PAIA also.
about your other question, if you use single conductor patch-points, you would need a common reference to connect between machines.
you could just power your SL and any modules with the same supply, then you wouldnt have to worry about compatibility so much... but i think [not sure] ray has addressed this himself on his site about gates and CVs from the greater voltages of his modular circuits.
to sync oscillators connect an output of one to the 'sync in' of another. pretty simple |

My Juno has no midi at all. And I like it that way =)
And I think that I have figured the power supply problem out.
So it's just to add sync in jacks on the SL's VCO's and I'm good to go. Thanks. |

duuuh. oh. hm well i have never seen a schematic or not real familiar with the juno [is it a 106?] the oscillators are integrated and 'digitally controlled' right? so they do their own DA conversion or.. im just guessing. but if you study the schematic i guess you will be able to see. hmm i will look for it when i get more time.
the soundlab doesnt have osc sync on the vco? i thought it did. i think there was a little talk about what it was supposed to work like in this branch of the forum. Last edited by toppobrillo on Thu Jun 08, 2006 4:43 pm; edited 1 time in total |

| a quick search tells me that the 106 was the first juno with midi, and that the "DCO"s are indeed digital, clock [not current] derived functions. |

It was more of a joke really. Midi is useful, but my juno still doesn't have it. It's a 6, not 106. But the osc's are digitally controlled as you say. I'll look for the shcematic. Or maybe I just make Ray's Single Bus Keyboard. I found a broken keyboard on the lokal junkyard that I can use.
And the osundlab has sync on the vco but it's not patched out. What I ment was to replace the switch with jacks. |
