"Adventure" - later "Colossal Caves" - being created on a PDP-11 way back.

That was my first ever encounter with computers!

When I was little, my father would take me along to "Norsk senter for informatikk" where he worked. There I played "Adventure". This was in the early seventies and the computers were Norsk Data machines, probably NORD-5 and later NORD-10. It's almost hard to believe now, but Norway had a bleeding edge computer industry back then. I also played the text based Moonlander there; the altitude, rate of descent and remaining fuel was displayed, you then entered the amount of fuel to burn and the process repeated until you crashed or made a victorious touch down.... Those were the days! <wipes>

Well its a small world, I used to work in R&D for Norsk Data many years ago.

It was a fantastic company to work for, unfortunetaly they didn't recognise the impact that the pc was going to make and it killed them.

Cheers

Oh yes, of course. Get to the end, kill Diablo. Sit twiddling thumbs for a day, not knowing what to do. Start all over again with another character.

Now what kind of ridiculously sarcastic remark is that. OK, I guess we are in tenth grade now. Grow up my friend. I post here on this forum because MOST of us are adult, not children. BUT, that is your opinion of the game, so be it. I respect it. Very Happy

I found Diablo really nice the first time through. It had a great atmosphere, and I really cared about my character. I couldn't re-play it though.
These days I only play Oblivion. Such an enormous and involving experience. I take ages to make it through a game at the best of times, mostly because I like doing SDIY as well, but I could be on this one for the next year, easily. Laughing

I'm really sorry Embarassed , I wasn't sarcastic. Now, how can I convince you that I didn't just write another sarcastic remark. Aargh!

What I wrote was a scene from my life. I've tried every character in Diablo I & II, and should number III appear, I'll know what to do every evening for another half a year.

I too am a recovering Diablo 2 adict. I had 8 characters and 8 mules worth of amazingly rare goodies. I played mostly 1.08 and 1.09 and quit soon after 1.10 because they ruined the physical damage classes. I had a level 99 bowazon, a 90 or so javazon, a 99 WW/beserk sword/shield barbarian, a 99 fanat pali (who I loved), a WW poleaxe barbarian (who was hilarious), the obligatory MF sorcie with lit/cold, and I briefly fooled around with a 1.10 necro using the set that gave him fire magic abilities. Probably forgetting at least one or two...

If diablo 3 comes out I don't think I can avoid it. I have enough trouble not re-installing it on my PC as it is!

My little "problem" is Civilization.
I've successfully kept Civ4 uninstalled for about 12mths now. Though I must admit it's about time I re-visited it. I've never believed in the 12 step style total abstinence idea. If you don't actively learn how often is okay, then I don't think you can learn about what's not okay either. That just leads to one addiction being replaced by another. And as for handing over responsibility for your actions to an imaginary friend, forget it! I'd rather give myself a trans-orbital-lobotomy! Laughing

Be gone!
Be gone!!!!
Remove thy self from my sight foul temptress!!!

"Start blowing out brother,
I demand you in the name of Jesus!
Release your hold and come out of him now!
Come on Bismark! Come Gahndi! You have no right to his PC time!
His SDIY is the head of the house!!!!!!"
Shocked Laughing

You would not believe how horrible I am at CIV 3...I've went nuts playing that game a few times. It's so humiliating getting stomped on by AI at moderate, even feeble difficulty settings.

I've found myself screaming at 4 in the morning...

Mad XERXCES You will PAY for your FEEBLE TREACHERY!

Xerxces's polygonal head swirling around me, laughing...his barbaric warriors pummeling my aristocratic elitist civilization's historic achievements...yeah, i'ts sweet to have the Collosus, the Oracle, the Great Wall, Leonaro's Workshop, SETI, the Pyramids, and the Hanging gardens all in one city. Until Ghandi comes and frikkin turns it into nuclear wasteland with 18 warheads!

The walls had all of those diminishing Civ 3 graphs and charts of how much you sucked at the 49 HOUR game you just played. And then I kept trying to hit the Escape button and you can't! You just have to sit there and listen to the "defeat music."
