OT: The Larry Solomon FM Crystal Radio Subject description: yeah.. it is THE Larry Solomon |

I know this is not directly synth related but I wanted to share this one anyway:
http://solomonsmusic.net/FM_CrystalRadio.html
Solomon says:
| Quote: | | I have heard, even from physicists, that it is impossible to build an FM crystal radio. On the other hand some experimenters claim that they have built them. This argument intrigued me to try and build an FM crystal radio, which I have done successfully |

The thing sitting under the "Holst-object" is this guy:
...which is C2 in Solomon´s schematics..( a 60-80 picofarad variable capacitor) _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

And Larry´s is an FM radio. Common sense says you cannot make an FM crystal radio. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Woah... That is a GREAT site. I love it. I made dozens of crystal radios when I was a kid. The cat wisker on a galena crystal is very cool. Don't give up on that. Ge diodes are very effective, but not as romantic and exciting.

I've had conventional crystal radios pick up FM radio reception when the signals are very strong. I never got interested in FM using crystal radios because there's not much DX on FM.
It's a thrill to build your own radio that runs on no power and listen to stations 1000 miles (1600 KM) or more away.
Now you can listen to the streaming audio on the internet, so I guess kids aren't going to find this too much fun. My kids were never interested in crystal radios. I was completely heartbroken. _________________ --Howard
