The main thing that ICS lodges do is coordinate regularly to play their central songwriting game, which takes place over the course of a single day.
It is called the “20-Song Game”.
It works like this:
1) Everyone who is playing the game wakes up on the same day, and, while remaining split up for most of the day, all of the players individually attempt to write and record 20 completely new songs before the day is over.
2) At the end of the day, everyone in the lodge puts their session on a CD or cassette, and after pausing at a store to procure treats (very important) they all descend on a common location, where they have a lodge meeting; which is to say, a listening party where everyone listens to all of the music that everyone made, while braying in the manner of wild beasts.

A friend of mine has been involved with the Black Lodge (Austin, TX), and although I'm a founding member of Zero Lodge (Dallas) we have only met once or twice and don't have much to show for it. The Zero Lodge is mostly an outcropping of http://www.algds.org/ which was started after some friends and I were inspired by the ICS.
It just occurred to me that some of you might find this interesting. Around here we call the ALGDS thing "game jam", and we use it to overcome the mind-numbing effect that the daily dredge of our work has on our creativity. The ICS concept is probably not new to most of you, though the organization might be.
Either way, I highly recommend it to people who are in a rut or block. You don't need a group to do it... just follow the rules by your lonesome. |

I was able to get the page to load. Must be a temporary network blockage, probably caused by the CIA or some other uncontrolled government secret society, but maybe do to natural causes.
Anyhow, sounds like a fun thing to do and a good excuse to get together. Personally, I'd rather just have everyone get together for a jam session. _________________ --Howard
