Developers Introduction |
 |
|
Hi everyone,
Jan Punter asked my to introduce myself and after I fought my concerns I thought it would be polite to do so:
My name is Christian Schneider, I am 24 years old, student of computer science and live in Karlsruhe, Germany. Most important I am one of the core developers of Nomad. I have started participating in the nm open source project about a year ago. Since then I have been responsible for the editor's front-end, the Nomad project. When I started with my development I was happy to see how much work was already done, and I am still thankful for the effort made in the reverse engineering of the Midi protocol and patch file format and implementing the Midi communication.
Hm, this was a bit technical now. However, I am happy that we were able to publish our first (pre-) release yesterday and hope that you will like it and can make use of it (although it has quite a number of bugs).
I am grateful that Jan Punter made this Nomad- related discussion forum possible. I will try to monitor this forum and help where problems arise as much as my spare time and real live allows my .
Another point I want to speak of: Actually we are working on our limit and don't have the time/capacity to spend in implementing 'cool new features'. Our current goal is to enhance Nomad so far that it can replace the official editor. Until this state is reached at least another year is required. When we have more resources available we probably will start a wishlist thread were you can tell us about missing features you want us to implement.
And about the capacity limit - if anyone wants to join the project and has experience with Java and/or XML development and is willing to contribute steadily we have always some work for you
Thanks for your interest,
Christian _________________ ----------------------

Great work! I don't speak java but 'll try to get your work running under Linux; that would be a very interesting new feature already.
Having concerns and fighting them are IMHO very good properties for developers (or any person for that matter), I'll second Jan. _________________ Kassen |

Thanks, I also want to thank you for making this forum possible. I have only referred to Jan before since I was not aware of the internals of this community and that it was you who finally set this forum up. I am very grateful you did it.

Running nomad on a pda sounds interesting, and makes some sense for me. To be honest, I doubt I will work on pda compatibility myself. But if someone wants to add this feature he can count on my support.
About, my motivations: I am a student and see the project as some way to get some practical experience unlike the things I do at the university (which are very theoretical). I also have the same problem like others that clavias editor is not working on my computer (I am using gentoo linux and have no windows). Finally it makes me happy that the project is useful for others. And I hope it will become more popular when the problems are eliminated and the editor is feature complete.
Sincerely,

Hi NM1 fans.
I find this thread and get excited again. I purchased an NM1(Key) back in 1999 or thereabouts and of course loved it (except for stuck notes and factory presets) and ran it from PC laptop. Now all my PC are aging dinosaur except for my beloved G5 (ie: aging dinosuar) which wasn't able to run da editor *boo hoo*.
Now I am complete again and the red box, I call it fNord, will take pride of place between overflowing ashtrays and empty pizza cartons once more *shoves virus out of way*.
Now I hear interesting idea of PDA to control fNord!
It just so happens that I can program PDA and work on .NET Mobile 5 blah blah blah so if u need some code cutting I am competent tailor.
Just ask me.
Thank you for producing this thing.
I will go home and thrash it a lot....
o err its my birthday - will have to wait until hangover is gone.

thanks again, it looks great on osx!
Would it be posible to work with nomad and linux on a 166mhz pentium laptop? java 5.0 is not suported for win 98.
(nm 3.03 editor works great with windows 98 on that laptop, but the nomad editor looks much better!
thanks |

Try Parallels, it's a cheaper alternative to Vmware, but you will still need a Windows Xp CD/DVD to install it in the VM. _________________ Free Tibet. Release the Panchen Lama from prison. Let the Dalai Lama return to his home. |

To Christian and developers:
I would like to say thank you for this wonderful editor.
I was cautious of using the Nord beta editor for Mac OSX and had decided to not use my Modular any more.
When I downloaded Nomad 0.3 just a few days ago, I was very pleased with your efforts. For a non-current synth to be supported in this way is truly marvelous.
Best wishes with all of your future projects.
yours truly;
