NICE Cool We could do an International Tall Dwarves thing. ie: come up with basic tracks and sounds, whatever and have people put their own stuff on them. Turn them into "songs" You get the picture

i really like the syncopation setup in the beginning with that FM synthy repetitive melody against the kik drum beat. So much of the time with programed rythm you can feel the rigidity, but it swings oh so strangely!! Cool.

Thats a technique you often find in latin, but also electro or hiphop songs. You start with a repetive pattern. Everyone who hers it knows exactly where the downbeat, the beginning of the bar is. Then the drums come in and in the first moment you feel like losing your breath because everything you believed in has turned out to be a mistake...
Most of the time with my music these things are "happy accidents". In this case i was recording sequences with the songs tempo, but no real destination in mind. That first sequence was copied right over the beat and it just sounded that way. Very often when working with samples or recording this happens. by moving the take to another position, often an 8th or 16th, or just by random, cool things happen that i wouldn´t have thought of. This has the big advantage that it´s inspiring. It suddenly doesn´t sound like "me" anymore, since most musicians do the same stuff all the time, more or less.
Also in this song with the voices this had happened. I had this folder with the soundclips. I just randomly dragged and dropped them in the arrangement. What you hear is no more than that. With moscs kugelschreiber take i didn´t even do any cutting.
To relay on chance, thats so important to my way of composing, since in many other ways i plan, arrange and develop in a much more conservative songwriting manner. I would bore myself to death if these things wouldn´t happen.
The other thing about beats is that i often don´t programm using a pattern sequencer. With the beat in the second part, when the double bass comes in, i had all those sounds recorded in my modular, cut into small samples and arranged by hand in the sequencer with the grid turned off. Like a real drummer that wants to stress something, you can have a snare hit slightly before the beat, stuff like that.
Oh, and another happy accident: The ending was also an arrangement of chance. I had those loops running while working on the song. Than the beat stopped and there were those unused samples i had cut out and deposed at the back of the song. And there it was: Beat stops, robot voice, glass, silence. Thank you.
