My first post, so please be nice…

I’ve had great fun breadboarding Ray Wilson’s Weird Sound Generator, and I love it! One little bit of the circuit perplexes me though – what exactly is happening when the ‘Wacky’ audio oscillator feeds into the ‘Weird’ oscillator, via diode D1? I love the effect, but does this particular configuration or modulation have a name?

Does anyone know exactly what the diode is doing, and why is it essential to the sound? I removed the diode to see what would happen (it’s important to experiment!) and all you get is the Wacky oscillator sound on its own.

By the way, love the site, love the forum.

You might want to try shorting the two nodes that the diode was connected to, just removing the diode removes the wacky part of the circuit from the rest of the WSG Circuit.

My guess to what is happening is. Having the diode there lets some of the current in the Weird part into the wacky circuit and power it, further more the diode stops the flow of current going the other way.

Which from what I have said means that the Wierd circuit has no effect, but like you said it does so we are no better off by this description. Smile
