Hi Gilles --
That's a VERY good question, because I have the same problem. The Asbestos is crumbling away in mine, too. The "attack" is very poor...
It would be nice to replace it with something easier found, rather than have to replace the entire circuit in that section with a photocell, etc.
Best,

P.S : By the way, I already sold my former ONDIOLINE. I can get some anytime. If any comes, I'd very pleased to contact you. Don't hesitate to come to "instrumAntiq.com" website. Be a site member and I will advise you.

If you want to replace it for health reasons I don't think you have to worry because of the small quantity, short exposure while working on it and because it is normally confined within the instrument. If you need to replace it I would try some fairly dense fibreglass pad like is used for sound deadening in speaker enclosures. The dielectric properties should be similar. I'm not sure if the dielectric properties are important, may be just a compressible spacer. Air may be the real dielectric. Also could try using a thin foam rubber pad. Just an idea. I've always kept the asbestos, it is more original.

I would wrap it in plastic using part of a plastic bag, trim to size and seal it with mylar tape just the shape required and it should last forever. |

Hello, an old thread...
I am restoring my second Ondioline, but this one differs from the first and from the schematics found at www.ondioline.com. Does anyone know if there are other schematics available? |
