Monitor placement |
 |
|
I’m trying to figure out how to place speakers for a 5.1 setup in my studio. I have several video monitors at my workstation so it seems that the audio monitors will have to be above them. I’ve seen photos of this kind of set up with the speakers aimed down toward the listening position. Has anyone had any experience with this kind of setup? _________________ The question is not whether they can talk or reason, but whether they can suffer. -- Jeremy Bentham |

Yes, and that kind of monitor placement rarely works if you intend to set up a proper monitoring enviroment. Trust me.
It is of course possible that you can manage to tweak a fairly decent sound out of such a placement scheme, but in general it is not supposed to work well.
It all depends on if you want a studio monitoring setup for critical listening sessions or some kind of workspace with loudspeakers. The way I think you work suggests that you want a WIHIWIG* rig.

WIHIWIG is what I need. But I do every thing at the computer. I need my video monitors infront of me. But turning to listen is the pitts. I'm stumped. _________________ The question is not whether they can talk or reason, but whether they can suffer. -- Jeremy Bentham |

Notice the air hose on the floor(lower right hand corner) . It's the newest hardware addition to the studio. For cleaning heat sinks. I had compressed air in the basement so all it needed was a fitting a hose and a hole in the floor.
