You can put one of the round metal can types into an 8 pin DIP footprint. That's what's on the ASM2. I've put MAT02s into the 8P-DIP on that, and it works fine. (With room for a tempco to lay erotically underneath each one ) _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

Same here, Unkle Krunkus - all of my ASM Vco's (ASM-2 & Bi-N-Tic) use MAT-02 metal cans and I have them working perfect in 8-PIN DIP IC-sockets.
Bill, do you have any reasons why one should avoid doing this?
Cheers,

It's really quite easy - all you have to do is enslave them in your DIY mill. For example, I've chained my son to the breadboard and I'm always sure to feed him when he gets results. My wife, bless her heart, has finally learned that her soldering efficiency is directly linked to how much time she gets in the excercise yard. We're all one big happy family!*
Cheers,
Scott

I retract this statement ....
Yup, you fellas are correct. You CAN use METAL CANs if you sort of shape the legs a bit. I was thinking strictly asthetics at the time .... So, if you have a can, use it for sure
I put in for the manufacture of 60 boards! The documentation is done, the connectors, sockets (except the skinny), headers and pins are all ordered! I will be getting the first run of PCB's in 14 days. I will build up a board for personal use and check things out.
If all is a GO, I shall give you all pricing and start the ordering process! The board price is firm at $18.00 each. I will price the connector kits soon.
More soon!

Sure, I am doing a run of 60 boards. When I post the announcement for orders, it will be first come first serve. I will, however, treat all the people on this thread, ordered by date posted, as being the first in line so you are in sir ...

Hi Friends,
Any chance the LM394 can be subbed with a 2SC1583? I have some of those on hand. . . .
BTW, awesome-looking board Mr. Machine!

Ah, so THAT'S how you're able to get as much done as three people! I always secretly thought you had a clone or a robot or an evil twin named Truman S. Barksdale or something. . . .
Regards,
Joe |

A 2SC1583 would work, not quite as well as the LM394, but it certainly would be doable, I'd think. Might take some pretzlizing to fit into the PCB.
Barksdale actually authored the more psychotic Klee samples - Third Eye Tiara was the centerpiece of a suite he'd been working on. Got turned down on his application for that Ice Capades gig (for which these samples were demos), and went missing again. Local authorities are baffled and they've tightened security at TI. It's a shame - if anyone could market "Buns of Klee" it would be him.
Cheerios,
Scott |

Ohhh. Has anyone started designing a front panel?
I think this would be next in line. |

Nice work!
I'd also be interested in a couple PCB's. Pre-made pcbs are a huge time saver 8D |

hey sneakthief,
i like your layout the most. why? if you have a small panel format (like euro or frac) IMO it's the best to have the pots in rows. tim's layout will be a little bit harder to operate...
and i like the idea to have the trimmers panel mounted. that makes it much easier to calibrate afterwards! i will incorporate this feature in my future projects, i think.
cheers,
matthias |

I'd be interested in a MOTM front panel.
It's just too bad i can't run Front Panel Express on a Mac.

Vielen Dank Matthias!
If anyone is using my layout as a basis for their own and doesn't want the 556-mixers, they should use something like this layout instead - it adds a knob for PWM and one between Attack & Release called "Env". It controls envelope speed - the mod for this is on Scott's page.

Perhaps that app might run in Crossover/Vine
