E-prime seems similar to Nonviolent Communication, but that may be perceived as a little too spiritual for everyone.

I think it is interesting that the Hebrew language has no word for "is". There is a word for was and will be though. Hebrew has a word for "there is". Thus, you can say, "There is water here", but if you want to say it is cold water you wouldn't say "this water is cold", just "this water cold".
