I want to try my hand a making a midi-cv converter. I've got the midi part under control, but cv is new to me. Is it as simple as feeding the right bits to a DAC chip and running that to the SLMS's cv input(s)?

Does the cv signal have to be bipolar? Or is everything 0V and up?

Are there favored DACs for this task in the 0V-to-10V output range?

How much current do cv signals require?

Lots of questions.. I appreciate any tips!

That's the idea yes, and for an octave jump it should output 1 V extra, equaly divided amongs the semi tones, or you could do quarter tones or any TET scale really - see : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normalizing_the_Musical_Scale

Are you going to use pitch bend as well ? Velocity on/off out could be fun as well.

Virtually nothing, it's like 10 V in 100 k, typically, which is like 0.1 mA, so lets say to design it for a few mA, then you could drive several inputs without a problem.
