Syncing NM to an external device... Subject description: I'm trying to sync my Nord Modular to a Roland SPD-S sampler |

Has anyone ever sucessfully synced a NM with some external gear such as a sampler or drum machine? I don't think my sampler can transmit midi clock so would it be best to trigger the Nord from the sampler pads? Also, I've been trying to sync with my software sequencer (sonar 2) via midi clock and it really seems like a crapshoot. Sometimes it on and sometimes it's off. Any and all help appreicated. Thanks! |

A simple little trick I used to use on my NM (and I'm not sure how relevant it will be to you as I primarily work with self contained noodles).
I'd patch up and make sure everything time dependant was correctly slaved to one clock gen set to the same tempo as a sequencer, I'd then connect a note detector module to the reset input of the clock and assign it to a note that wouldn't be used in any musical capacity (assuming I'd use any midi keys atall).
You then stick a corresponding note on message in a midi track on your sequencer, voila. When you start the sequencer from the start everything is pretty much in sync.
I'm not sure how this will work with your sampler although if it's loop based sequences, just make sure that you set the pattern length to the longest element (ie. if you have an lfo cycling over 4 bars or whatever).
Using the note detector method, if you want to play keyboard lines or anything else, you should use the kdb range module ranged from the note above the one specified in the resetting note detector up to wherever you want and remember to turn off the key tracking on your modules and patch it all through the kdb range mod.
Hope this gives you some ideas to play with, I'm sure there are hundreds out there.
Happy patching.
