hello,

i'm pretty new to the G2, so sorry for my basic level question:

i'd like to have a faster (than 16/T) arpeggio, like SID synth style. i can't really config the synth to ingore external clock and increase master tempo of G2 (engine). i need to have some sequencer-patches in sync with external gear, and since this is to be a live situation i can't go editing the synth settings .

i wonder if there's a "simple" solution for making a fast arpeggio...?

cheers

Yes, use a sequencer module and change the speed using a clock.

another very simple way to do a fast arp is to route two lfos through the s&h (one on the sample input, one on the trigger input), and then route the result through a quantizer.

if you want em rythmic, set the lfos to clock values.

thanks! but it's not quite the same result in either case. you can't really play the chords, since it's rather fixed. and with only one note arpeggiator shouldn't run at all.

yeah, making a fast "arpeggio" is quite different than making a fast "arpeggiator". the latter is a bit more complex

http://www.cim.mcgill.ca/~clark/nordmodularbook/nm_logic.html#arpeggiation

that's for the g1 but still useful, i think.

i can imagine a g2 arpeggiator. maybe i'll give it a try.

here's an example of a three note arpeggiator. you can remove the random note generator and hook your keyboard up.

the yellow "arp" module can be driven as fast as you want.

this is the reason it's more complicated-you have to "test" the circuit at each new note to see what order the notes are in, high to low, and then sort them out. it gets more complaicated with each note you add. after all, 1 note= 1 possibility, 2 notes, 2 possibilities, 3 notes, 6 possibilities, 4 notes, 24 possibilities... n notes, n factorial possibilities for their ordering. the most complicated module a g2 for these greater than/less than operations is the comparator, so you have to make the truth tables yourself.

I think the monokey lo and hi could be put to good use in these kinds of patches. Could reduce the truth table size I guess, but I can't spend any time patching now, so I can't try out myself.
In addition, I think it will be good to use voice# parameters instead of a clocked delay for more versatility (probably best to use the voice# and arp clock / mechanism in the va area & route the arped pitch signal to FX area for monophonic synth voice use for best efficiency, however, it is still necessary then to increase polyphony)

edit: the voice# idea might not be such a good idea after second thought. Gets very complicated and probably needs too many replicated modules.
