Oops...

v-un-v, I hope she'd told you this all before Wink

Uhh, there is no mentioning of 'living' all together including Rosie of Pram; she just could use a room to store her things...

LOL!!!!!!

What a complete load of SHITE!!!!

LOL!

There IS a junk hoarder in Pram, and that's Mr Max Simpson (once their soundman). Max is Mr Gadget. Rosie is NOT a junk hoarder- I'm the junk hoarder in our relationship- it drives her nuts!! Cool Laughing

I suppose I shouldn't tell people all this stuff- it spoils all the fun! lol.

Eggshells is about relationships that rosie has had with previous boyfriends, but most of the time her lyrics are about where she grew up. Broadcast had a studio at the Custurd factory (when it WAS a good place and before the yuppies moved in). They've definitely been to London a lot, because of Pikey. But whether they shared a house? I doubt it very much.

Oh yes, the person who posted this crap- it could have been their ex-drummer (pram's), but then Pram have got through several drummers. Rosie and I have always lived together (pretty much) from the word go.

Ironing boards are a Pram trademark, so are Yamaha toy keyboards (not Casiotones- as everybody assumes), but these were mainly used because they were so cheap. Rosie has been for a rather long time now using a Nord Micromodular, instead of the Yammie's- but still using the yammies as midi controllers. And yes, they do own a lot of old hardware, but doesn't everyone?

Lastly- and MOST importantly, The Omnichord popularised by Add N to X was a result of them supporting Pram and being fascinated by the instrument that I gave Rosie for her birthday back in 1995. Smile

Pram were also responsible for popularising the Theremin in the 1990's- with experimental British bands.

It's weird, because the person who posted this also posts a lot about Pram on the Stereolab forum, too....and appears to be slightly bitter, to put it mildy....

I personally think that Pram are a great band - and I'm just glad that they are still around, and hope that someone manages to get those ironing boards out once more and get the new album underway! Very Happy

Well, I'll re-post it....due to such public demand lol!

Back in 1995 both bands shared the same converted motor factory building in south east London as living quarters.... Stereolab's Tim, Laetitia, Duncan and Mary all took up residence on one floor whilst Broadcast's James, Trish, Tim and Roj were ensconsed within another. Both bands used to practice and rehearse all day and night and would often fight over milk, tea, coffee, sugar and chocolate biscuits. After a while the arrangement became a tad volatile as a result of everybody refusing to pay any rent cos there was so little heating and water in return, and both camps decided to give the unscrupulous landlord the slip and vacate the premises - the various Stereolab personnel retreated back to Brixton and Hoxton, whilst Broadcast all returned to their native Moseley and King's Heath in Birmingham - vowing never ever again to drop their anchor in the big smoke.

Furthermore, there was also another slight problem, one other person had taken up residence with them during their time in London - a certain Rosie from Pram (who remains good buddies with Broadcast and Stereolab) - who spent much of her time down there trawling the second hand shops amassing a formidable collection of used ironing boards, old 60s and 70s formica furniture and all manner of old children's toy instruments that she would later use extensively on tour with her band. The fact that her clutter was beginning to take up so much space in Broadcast's living quarters and inevitably started to spill over into Stereolab's created antagonism between all three parties....with the result that Tim (from Broadcast) and Tim (from Stereolab) both threatened her with eviction unless she got rid of some of her junk. She steadfastly refused, and instead used her experiences of sharing this rather soulless space with her mates as inspiration for the twisted and murderously psychopathic lyrics that would grace all subsequent Pram recordings. Not many people know this but the lyrics to the Pram song "Eggshells" were barely disguised sentiments of disgust that Rosie penned in a fit of anger one night when she was fantasising about chainsawing off the heads of both Tim Stereolab and Tim Broadcast because they were making such a big thing about her collection of junkshop paraphernalia.

So, in a way, it's not just Stereolab that Broadcast are intertwined with but Pram too - they even shared personnel with them - one drummer, Stephen Perkins - having played in both bands, plus the fact that they also live in the same part of Birmingham.

Here is the link to the whole discussion, search for 'Stereolab connection?' and you'll find the whole thing.

http://www.broadcast.uk.net/index3.html?http://www.broadcast.uk.net/forum/login.php

Similarily, if you search for Pram Rosie in Stereolab's forum, you'll find lots more stuff written by the same poster 'Spacemoth' regarding the band!

You mean you are offering that space for Ironing Boards et al? Wink

I have a collection of elephants - no, not real ones - and I'm running out of space!!!! Deal or no deal? Very Happy

Would Rosie be prepared to have one of my silk thai elephants sat upon her ironing board at the bands next gig? - now THAT would make my day!

Yep, that's the voice!!!!! A-freakin-mazing!!!

Back in the late '90s/early 2000s I was spending a lot of time in Oulu, Finland. The thing about European MTV (at least at that time) was that they would actually play music, which American MTV considered to be a heretical action by that time.

On one of those visits, early in the morning as I drifted in and out of jet lag, I was suddenly captivated by this dreamlike, beautiful song drifting over from the television. I rolled over and was met with an equally dreamlike and beautiful video. "Sleepy Sweet". It seemed to tug at something long ago in my childhood - I dunno, but it literally fried my frazzled brain. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I lived for that video to come on. I was there a few weeks that time, IIRC, and probably saw it maybe five times - it came on a certain show they had, the name of which escapes me.

As soon as I returned to the States, I purchased the CD (can't remember where - maybe Amazon - hard to find stuff like that in record stores around here). "North Pole Radio Station". It delivered fully. I dug it, my wife dug it. I even ordered a copy of it and sent it to a buddy in Colorado, who also dug it.

It had been a year or two since I last heard it, and right before I started on a 200 mile drive last Friday afternoon, on a last minute whim, I got out of the car and dug through my pile of CDs - there it was. I listened to it like three times on that trip. And then today I read.....amazing.

Tell your wifey thanks for such a remarkable body of work as is that album.

Cheers,
Scott

PS And now you get curry. Damn, I was just born in the wrong place.....

Very Happy

There is a 12" of Sleepy Sweet too (with a gloriously floaty dub version on it too Very Happy ). Do you want me to send you a copy?

I've just searched the shelves for any 'spare copies' of the other records (Pram have done 14 or so LP's Shocked ), but unfortunately we're out of freebies (Domino are really TIGHT when it comes to sending free stuff- even to their bands Evil or Very Mad )

Merge records in the States carry most stock if you need a more 'closer-to-home' distributor;

http://www.mergerecords.com/band.php?band_id=56&

Now- I really must put my head down and write this damn essay on Hume Evil or Very Mad Laughing

"All work and no music makes Tom a bad boy"!
