Who am I ? |
 |
|
I'm someone who just came back to the music world... How did I do it ? I just bought an "old" organ, a GEM model G120.
And, talking about this model, I was not able to find any information on it on the Net, just like it never existed. But may be some of you will know about this type of organ. I had quite a deal, it was paid $12,000.00 (Canadian money) and I got it for $1,900.00
Now, to talk about myself, I can tell you that my mothertongue is French (so I hope you'll excuse me if I make some English mistakes ). But, I was able to learn English quite well because I lived in the Boston area five years (Massachusetts I miss you ). Years ago, I was in a band, I played the church organ for several years too.
Don't know what else to say, so talk to you later ! _________________ ------------

that's an Italian organ but I have never heard of this particular model (I have never been too much into "organs" )

Nice to meet you Seraph !
I was in Massachusetts from 1983 to 1988... So, you are right, may be we did bumped into each other
Talking about the organ, yes it is Italian. It is quite a "big" organ. It has a sound similar to my former Elka (also Italian). At the time, the Elka model I had was the best one you could buy, it was a portative. I had a Leslie for the organ sounds and a commercial sound system for everything else on this organ.
On this GEM G120 technical sheet, there's an address :
General Electro Music Corporation
1260 Mark Street
Elk Grove Village, IL
This is where this model came from, I wonder if this store is still in business ? _________________ ------------

Welcome, Jocelyne. Nice to have you here.
There is no connection with electo-music.com and General Electro Music Corporation.
I has a Farfisa mini-compact organ once. Seems like there were a lot of organs made in Italy for a while. |

Hello Jocelyne. Welcome to the site.
My first synth was a Siel DK600 supposedly made in an Italian farfisa factory - so I guess the organ connection is remotely there. Er, well, sort of.
Actually, I've never been fond of playing organ except for the organ at my grandma's when I was a kid. She was the church organist at the same church in a rural town in Illinois for 65 years. She was wonderful - she also first taught me to play piano when I was 5. I'm forever grateful for the path she started me down... |

I studied classical organ when I was about 12 years old. My teacher had a diploma (believe it or not) from the Conservatoire de Paris for fifty years of music. He was a great musician and he wanted to pass this love he had for classical music to me. But, at first, I wanted to learn pop music it took the Bach Toccata and Fugue to start me on (I always loved it). Progressively, classical organ music made it's way...
Five years later, I became the local church organist and I stayed there for a few years. The great church organ sound is something that gets to me very deep down. To tell you a secret, I'm afraid to go to churches, because every time I ear the organ I start crying like a baby and I don't want the people to think that I'm some sort of a psycho
There's three side of me in music. One side that likes the pop music. For this purpose and over the years I bought several keyboards like Korg, Kawai, Roland. My second side is in the "middle", because I enjoy jazz music where the organ sound is still popular . And the last side that stays classic. Every time I try a keyboard or an organ, the first thing I look at is the church organ sound, the pop organ sound (it must feel like the Hammond B3) and the strings. If it's not there, well too bad, next...
Enough blabla _________________ ------------
