I can't say I've ever heard of anyone building something for an impending gig. Talk about pressure! Just curious, how did this come about? You must have had some kind of synths to create the songs you'll be performing, why can't you use those?

because i am crazy and like to impose harm on myself

no seriously, i never really even considered NOT using these things in my show.

AND TALK ABOUT PRESSURE!!!

now i the show is today and I JUST FINISHED

sadly, i spent almost no time figuring WHAT i will play, so i will probrably do half acoustic, half electronic improv.

but it was a good challenge for me

i got

one vco
one lfo
one filter
one vca
one ar eg

all on perfboard and put in tupperware cases!!!

its going to rock

i have been doing nothing but soldering for four days straight!!!!

and a lot of troubleshooting!!!

anyone in nyc can come on out around 10:30 to

Nice and simple -- one chip and two functions. I never understand why everyone thinks they have to use logic chips any time there is a logic function. With a bit of thought an opamp circuit can usually be made to do the job.

Ian - I built this last night - spiffy circuit, works as advertised Wink
I'm thinking I'll build a couple more of these and place them all in one module.

Wow, that was quick. There's a lot you can do with more than one these. For example, use one for AD and another for AR. Then mix their outputs by feeding them into the two ends of a pot with a buffer on the slider. Presto, ADSR, but with the AD and AR also separately available. Also different attack times, if you want.

I'm attaching one of the aux circuits that folks might be interested in. This is a trigger delay with a variable pulse width output. So you can generate a delayed AD envelope. By using a finite width to the pulse you get an AHD envelope, where H is a hold time for the peak voltage equal to the pulse width. These envelopes are really nice, because they are transient, like an AD, but much punchier because of the flat top. I haven't seen this anywhere else, but, really, it's great!

Enjoy!

Very Happy

Ian

now that my show is over, i am going to build this. btw, are all of these circuits on your site? i havent seen them on there. maybe i am looking in the wrong section. or do you not put ALL of your schematics up.

btw, how do you make your panels? what materials and dimensions do you use? i love your modular.

Ian,
Awhile back, I bought several of your AD/AR EG + Delayed Pulser PCB's from Bridechambers. I'm really impressed with the performance of these simple circuits (especially the ultra snappy attack times when the attack pot is set on 0). Both the AD/AR EG and the Delayed Pulser are outstanding modular circuits since they can be used for a wide variety of applications.

As you pointed out, two or more of these modules can be used to create more complex envelopes, such as ADASR and ADADASR envelopes. For example, the output of 2 AD/AR EG's can be combined to produce an ADSR-like (or ADASR) envelopes if you fire the first AD EG immediately and use one of the delayed pulsers to delay the trigger sent to the other AR EG.

Anyway, I have a questions concerning a possible modification to your AD/AR EG.

Is there a simple way to modify the existing AD/AR EG so you could add an "end-of-cyle output pulse"? This would especially be useful when the EG is used in AD mode. When the end of the decay period is near, the output of the EG would be approaching 0V. A circuit, such as a comparator, could be used to generate this "end-of-cycle pulse" by sensing when the output of the EG is approximately 0V. The end of cycle pulse would resemble a trigger pulse and if it was coupled to the trigger input of the AD/AR EG, it would could be used to turn the EG into a LFO.

This "end-of-cycle pulse" could also be used to trigger other modules, such as other Envelope Generators or Sequencers, directly or indirectly. For example, since this pulse is generated at the end of a note's decay period, it could be used to increment a Sequencer so it would advance to the next note.

Do you have any suggestions or schematics that would provide such a function?

Thanks.
David

Hey All,

Just thought I'd post this video I made recently which demonstrates some of the sounds possible with Ian's awesome "All-In EG"...

Thanks Ian for the great design, and also Bridechamber for the PCB & Panel Very Happy

Hertz Donut & Ian Fritz "All-In EG" percussion from Patch Cables on Vimeo.

Signal source is the Hertz Donut eurorack module. Sequencing is also eurorack: Pressure Points, uScale & uStep.

Ian's envelope goes to a DIY 5U Yusynth Arp 4072 filter & DIY Oakley ARP style ring mod (built on stripboard) operating as a VCA.
