TH VC-ADSR? Subject description: from the margin of the margin |

Hi Thomas,
Have you ever designed a VC-ADSR?
As someone who is primarily a percussionist i've come to appreciate VC on microtiming events.
I'm using two of Tom Gamble's VCADSRs in my modular, which can be described as difficult to use to say the least and as i've built a field of your 3080VCAs and Triangle core VCOs,I wondered whether that clarity of design so prevalent in your work has ever been applied to a VCADSR design.
I find much emphasis on LFOs and the way they are used to change timbre but using LFOs to change the VC of a note/timbre envelope seems to be a neglected backwater. One can obviously programme note length into MIDI data or odd length analog(ue) sequences but it doesn't have the subtlety available in manipulating both or either VCA envelope and VCF envelope.
In a sort of inverse technological slant I have an absolute dissatisfaction with electronic drums... as neither computer or circuit can catch up with the speed my hands can translate what my mind wishes to communicate with cymbal or drum.Again it's a timing issue particularly.
I am thus applying this perspective to my modular and I suspect many are missing out in this area of VC.

I'm sure there was one published in Polyphony. |

If you can get your hands on an ssm2055 of ssm2056 EG chips or two, and a copy of the May 1982 Keyboard magazine issue, there is an excellent VC-ADSR there from Craig Anderton. I had built one way back in my college days, when SSM and CEM chips walked the earth and ruled analog synths with righteous impunity! Too bad they are extinct now (must have been an asteriod that caused it...). But I would bet that the VC control circuitry could probably be adapted to TH's 555-based design.
I think I have the magazine article around here somewhere. If you are interested in a copy, let me know.
