new yusynth STANDARD CV module |
 |
|
Hi all
I have just published a new YUSYNTH module at my site. It's an utility module that provides with three channels of standard control voltages.
It features OCTAVE rotary switches, SEMITONES rotary switches, 3 buffered outputs per channel and one external CV input per channel (to input a keyboard controller CV for example).
Enjoy it at :
http://yusynth.net/Modular/index.html
or direct link to the module :

Yes it's intended to be an utility module to drive the yusynth VCOs (which have no octave range switch).

I was expecting a voltage divider. This one looks to be one on steroids.
Thanks Yves, such utilitarian (and useful) modules are far and few between. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Me too....
Have just built a couple of new VCOs, and spent a frustrating day tracking down errors in other circuits - this has made the end of day just peachy!.
Time for a beer I guess.........

Very good idea, Yves. Such modules prove to be very useful, maybe even absolutely necessary. I would perhaps have included an A440 reference oscillator with it.
BTW, your site displays the saw animator when you click on the "standards" module.

Hi François
I had a project of a A440 standard as well that I intended to include in a forthcoming module of mine : the CV-PANNER-MIXOUT .
But after discussing that with other people I eventually came to the conclusion that it was not really worth having such a tuning reference since nowadays one can get a precise digital tuner for less than the cost of a DIYed A440 accurate reference.
Here is a preview of the CV-PANNER-MIXOUT module (it is still in the electronic design stage, but should be there by the beginning of 2008 with some other modules, VC-COMPARATORS, RANDOM GATES, CLOCK DIVIDERS, EMS VCF)

You're right, Yves. The only advantage of a DIY A440 reference would be the look of the front panel matching that of other modules...
The direct link you provide to the "standards" module works OK.
Thanks again.

Shouldn't this be called a "Yuutility Module."?

Still, using an external digital device is not really in the spirit of DIY modulars
I have a digital tuner myself but am still looking for a reference oscillator that I can use in my modular as I don't want to have to plug in external devices if I need to quickly retune a VCO. Moreover, the digital tuner is so small it always gets lost.
Mind you, I prefer the digital one for initial calibration of the VCO, but I think I'd prefer a built-in reference to quickly "zero" the VCO tune pots on the front. _________________ http://www.casia.org/modular/ |

This Yutility module is a fantastic idea - it's one of those functions that can really embiggen a modular. Great job, Yves! _________________ My Site |

Well, I did not expect such an enthusiasm about this humble module.
It seems also that it has been renamed by popular demand : the Yutility _________________ Yves |

Hi Yves,
Congrats on this very useful module. I definitely plan on building it when you have it ready.
I have this out-there desire to build a Modular Drum Box based on the Thomas Henry circuits, the CGS circuits and a couple other circuits.
I was planing on using the MFOS Mixer Output module( but it lacks VC Panning on the input channels) or the Buchla Model 207 mixer for the final stage before the PA mixer or Recording channel.
Since you are still in the design process, here are a few suggestions for you which would add more benefits to your module.
1) Mute switches for each input channel
2) PFL switches for monitoring to jam on the spot before throwing into the final mix. a combination of the functions with a 3 pole switch would reduce the switch count.
3) 1 or 2 Effects Send and Returns
4) 1 or 2 Stereo Line Inputs. Preferably 2 for both.
5) The ability to add more inputs, 4 additional channels would be great.
It's a tall order, these are the mods I would do to MFOS Mixer once I have
the TH Mega-Percussion Module to go along the other modular drum modules. Hopefully, you might find them helpful as well as functional
Cheers,
Ringer |

Hi Ringer
Well I want to keep this module as simple as possible. It is mainly aimed to be a four voice VC-panner not to be a complete substitute for an audio mixer. Therefore, it is going to be as shown. Not stereo input, no send/return...

Thanks for the encouragement.
Soon I will publish (next fortnight I foresee) two new modules :
a dual VC-comparator for triggering events depending on a voltage threshold,
and my version of the EMS diode ladder filter (I know that some of you have been waiting for it). Stay tuned... _________________ Yves Last edited by yusynth on Mon Jan 28, 2008 2:20 am; edited 1 time in total |
