Wow - cool! What's it like? Did you get it new or used? I've gotten the impression they can be hell to get hold of.

The bc16 arrived today, very interesting quirky little thing, capable of some nice sounds.
Am now quite interested in getting a bc8 too, but after looking into Chimera's delivery issues a bit more closely I think I will be waiting until I can buy one from anywhere but them. _________________ Jez

| You should be happy! The Ion is a cool instrument. I constantly under-appreciate it. Every time I play with it I ask myself why I don't play with it more. |

[quote="droffset"]Alesis Ion.
I'm very happy.
Whoa! You gots the big honkin' one! Fair bit bigger than my Alesis Micron. (Which has a feature or two that yours doesn't.) I'd prefer the big one though. Much more keyboard to play than mine. (I'd like to get 5 octave for using as a controller at least, again.) |

This is the first synth I buy that isn't sold in a toy store, and will likely be the only one for a while so it had to maximize value for money. I love all the knobs and how you don't have to really dive into menus until well into the patch. I'm just learning how to tap its abilities but the interface is very intuitive, even the mod matrix made sense right away.
The hard part is learning how to make good programs from scratch, which is also the fun part. I'm just glad I won't be fighting the tool. _________________ ==================

Yeah I have one too. It's a neat machine for the money. I found especially the way you set up LFOs a bit cumbersome in the start, but nowadays when I start it up it all comes pretty naturally.

| I don't have a micron, but from pictures of it, it doesn't look like something I would want to buy. I HEAR that it has features x, y, and z that the Ion doesn't have, but when I look at the micron, it's image screams TOY. Maybe Alesis was trying to make it cheaper or something, but come on! I bought my Ion new for less than $600. Even if they put a shitload of knobs on the micron, it's not going to put it out of reach. |

| Are you going to fix the cable between opposit walls, put the motor under voltage control to sequence the tension, and use the pipe in your automated beater/plucking device? |

No, but I really like the idea! In fact its a lot better than what they'll actually be used for. And no, there still isn't any prize! _________________ The question is not whether they can talk or reason, but whether they can suffer. -- Jeremy Bentham |

| I doubt it would actually work, I think the motor coil needs to make turns to get enough cooling. But it was a fun idea anyway. |

How you finding it? I have the MRes which is ace and fun but I just can't seem to use it for anything. ? |
not really had much time to explore it fully, but so far it doesn't really seem to be that useful at processing stuff, as it is very easy to go off the deep and and get crazy noise which is totally unrelated to the input, which is kind of fun, but not necessarily what I got it for, but maybe I'm just not used to it yet _________________ Jez

Here is a breadboard version of my Credit Card Synth design concept, or iThingie. It is also my entry in the em10 laptop battle. I've added some more circuitry since this photo, creating two Karplus Strong voices driven by a dual Boolean Sequencer. It makes string/guitar and percussion sounds. In addition to the photo, I have attached an audio demo featuring the percussive range of sounds possible.

Haha, yes well the breadboard is always larger than the design. It's got two voices while the credit card board has only one.
