this is perfectly clear !
thank you.

maybe just this :
"kept R56 Trim at 10K (I didn't need much gain as my modular works at 10 Vpp)."

this means you swapped all 10k R for 100k ones but keep a 10k trimmer for gain ? (counter-reaction, in series with one 100k R).
10k is small compared to 100k, so only a small gain is available (+10% max. ?), which is enough for 10vpp signals ? that's it ?

So your calibration is efficient only for one position on the INS switch ?
Anyway i've understood it's good to always use the same vco to drive it.

No need for offset/bias function ? you don't use it as a quantizer ?

i'm afraid i'll need a special BOM with value for all the trimmers...

We'll release many of scales for this beast in quantizer mode.
voices form southern france says it is an ever evolving project...
Stay truned Smile

Edit : only a three-pages-thread ?!

THe trimmer is supposed to adjust the gain to suit the ADC input level
(actually the signal is reduced a little bit less to half the voltage by R50, R45 and R41).
As the ADC will clip at 5Vpp and my VCOs are 10Vpp, the gain of the U19A and
U19b should be 1. So the 10K trimmer allows enough adjustment.
The calibration is good for the 2 positions of the inverter switch, but I can't
make it perfect in both, so I chose to have the best calibration in the inv
input as I will use it more. But the non-inv input is almost as good.
I did a little BOM for the trimmer (in paper), I have to look for it.
My interest is to use the Quantix-8 more as a wavetable, waveshaper, but
I will use it as sampler and scale quantizer ocasionally, so if you make some
scales will be welcome.
I'm collecting wavetables from the net, but didn't have time to try them yet.

your layout is killer.

here is my plan...

marc would keep IN1 without any pot (well calibrated with trimmers) and IN2 with attenuator and bias pots if needed.

still on work...

Does anybody know of a free program that will convert WAV or MP3 files into something that the Q8 can process as a sample, like a RAW file.

Thanks,
Dave

>funkyfarm
Nice layout, I see you put the correct weight to the led bars, as you should
have noted, I didn't. When I designed the frontpanel I thought it would be more intuitive to see the leds lights on in the same direction of the knob (if you know
what I mean). But in use I think is the same.

>levotex
I think you can use the Quantix-8 editor to convert any WAV to the format
used by the Q8, but didn't try it yet.

On-coming new soft version.

Where did you see the new editor? I checked his web site but didn't see anything. Is there any mention of an outboard control box to switch to sampler mode without hooking up to a computer?

Cheers,
Dave

Hello,

I have updated the Quantix-8 page today... So

Dave > The answer to all your questions is online now .

Sebo> It is not a ''new ' editor , but the v2.0 ... You won't be loosed by the new features, and i have simplified the use of many functions too...

Links to updates are here http://m.bareille.free.fr/update.htm

There are things for the MCV876 interface too ...

Thanks

Marc B.

Hi Marc,

The Q8 MIDI remote looks great! Will there be PCB available for this soon?

Thanks,
Dave

Yes, why not if you need one or more. But not before the 8 September ... because i am still in 'vacations' now Cool

>Sebo : no problemo , i was just joking a little bit, but what i said about the software is true Smile

Thanks,

Hi all:
Finally I found the time to do some comparison between opamps for the output
stage of the Quantix-8 (U16).
I originally used a TL072, and tried a 4558 and CA3240.
I did a simple sequence changing octaves and basic waveforms, then recorded
it with the 3 opamps.
The difference is bigger than I expected. The choose was hard to me because
I liked different opamps for different waveforms, but I finally keep de CA3240.
I attached the WAVs in 24bits 44.1KHz so you can hear for yourself.

after all i started to build the quantix eventually. the PCB is stuffed and i did the necessary modifications already. now i am working on the frontpanel and i wonder about the Zero X Detector switch.
on the wiring diagram it is labeled as 'push button' - doesn't it actually meant to say 'momentary'? i have both in stock momentary push buttons and toggle push buttons.

today i wanted to test the quantix i built. however when starting the editor the system complains about missing dll's.
the first dll missing was the borlndmm.dll, which i downloaded and copied into the editors directory. now another driver is missing. i could play the game of downloading all dll's manually, but maybe there is an easier way? is there something (a package) i would have to install onto my machine?

Hey Fonik,

I have the same problem with version 2 of the software, but V1.71 works ok maybe try and get that version to test your Q8.

i downloaded both drivers into the editor's working directory, and now it's working. i tested the unit according manual, nevertheless i have some issues.

changing banks and waves works, both manually and with CV.
sending and receiving wavetables works.
as far as i can see the whole unit can be controlled realtime by the software.
CV quantizing works (however ti is upside down, as mentioned in this thread before).
however, all other modes don't (MIDI 2 CV, MIDI Clock/divider, Wavetable OSC) will have to investigate this further.

when i powered it up the first time i got some magic smoke due to a wrong wired potentiometer. i wonder which IC could be damaged, since sending/receiving/storing data works.

how could it be that CV quantizing works, but wavetableOSC does not?

Hi Fonik:
I have the MIDI to CV upside down, the quantizer works OK as I added an
inverter switch to the input Smile
I think that if the quantizer works, the wavetable should work too, as both
use the ADC the PIC, the RAM and the DAC, if some of this were
damaged, or any of the circuits related (buffers, etc) neither modes would
work. Well... there is a small chance that the PIC gets some damage and
part of the code is corrupted, but that would be very strange.
Wave pot and Wave CV pot are sumed then go to the PIC, same with the
Bank pots, so if they work now I don't think that the miswiring affected
any other part of the circuit.
Hope you solve this soon.
