AKAI MPD16 midi pad with Vista? |
 |
|
I ordered an AKAI MPD16 control unit thinking I'd use it with my desktop computer which is running XP. When I tried to install it windows asked me to insert the original XP disk while it was installing the drivers. This computer is pretty old and I no longer have the disk I need.
I've also got a laptop with Vista on it, but when I try to install on that it doesn't work. I read somewhere that the drivers included on the disk don't work with Vista.
Does anyone have any suggestion on how I can get this thing to work on either one of my computers? I have FL Studio 7 installed on both computers if that helps any???
Thanks to anyone that can help! |

Welcome,
as you said there are no Vista drivers so you won't get it to work under Vista probably. To make it work under XP I suggest you download the drivers (and possibly the additional software) from akaipro.com (you probably already did that ...). You do not need a disk, you can point XP to the folder where you downloaded the driver. _________________ Jan

I tried installing it on the pc using the auto install and by manually selecting the new hardware and both times it said "please insert the Windows XP disk" while it was in the process of installing the drivers. It's very weird and a total bummer. I'll play with it some more tonight I suppose.
Thanks. |

Are you not offered a choice to search drivers on the web (but do not use that), or to browse the hard disk for it?
If not I guess you'll have to contact the manufacturer.
Or maybe try writing all the stuff on a CD _________________ Jan

I plug in the USB cable from the pad to the computer and it comes up with the "new hardware detected" notification on the taskbar.
I've tried both the automatic install as well as the manual install. In both instances I get to the point where it is installing the drivers. About 20 second into copying the drivers it gives me a message that says "the drivers you are installing are not digitally signed and may cause system instability" and it gives the option to continue or to cancel.
I select continue, and after about 10 more seconds I get a message that says "To continue windows needs some files to continue. Please insert your disk that is titled Windows XP Professional Edition and click continue.
I'm working on getting another a similar copy of XP from a friend, but I don't know if it will work since it's not the exact same disk and has a different serial number. |

Right /that/ disk, had not understood ... you should not ever loose that one
You might have a folder somewhere on your hard disk into which the XP setup files were copied, maybe do a search for folders named like i386. _________________ Jan

GOT IT TO WORK!
I borrowed a copy of XP professional, which actually didn't really fix the problem. It did result in the setup utility telling me the name of the .sys file that it needed. I managed to find a copy of that file online and saved it to the desktop. After that I re-ran the setup and directed it to that file instead of the cd drive.
DRMK.sys was the file that was needed.
Thanks for all the help!!!!!!! |
