me three! I love the sound.

And having other gear to add different character adds more color to the mix.

heh - that wasn't terribly articulate, was it? I bought the g2 for a number of reasons but its sound wasn't really one of them. However, I've really warmed Rolling Eyes to it.

Most of the time I love it.. sometimes i urks me a bit in certain areas.. but I can say the same for all the gear i own.. E.g:

Waldorf Pulse sounds great, but the filter res destroys the ouput level and lfo 2 needs more options. Electribe ESX is fab fun but warms every sample you put in it destroying the clarity. Machinedrum has fantastic workflow, high end has so much clarity, aggresive punch but the kicks always need tons of work in a mix... etc etc...

I think the Nord is happiest when producing hard swedish sounds...

It also souds fab when you run it through a big muff. Very Happy

And what about the trasnformers experiment? any progress? Smile

Err, no sorry. Been rather preoccupied. It is still on the cards, though. I'm focussing on building some other gear, and fixing gear that doesn't work at all. I see this as a final 5% kind of project, so it keeps getting pushed back. Also, for some reason my wife would like me to fix our house first.

Experimenting with transformers is still of keen interest to me, as I am really not familiar with the psychoacoustic affects. I am familiar with the technical characterisation, though.

I'll post back when I make some real progress.

Personally, I still don't see any problem with using a plug in effect for altering the G2's sound, as described. The kind of effect I am aiming for, is something which I would generally not wish to apply universally to all sources in mix. I would also likely not apply it to every G2 patch.

Cheers

Oli

If you DIY synths and stuff, consider building something like this:

http://www.forsselltech.com/downloads/schematics/JE16%20Mike%20Preamp.PDF

or the JLM Baby Animals.

I have built the Forssell circuit and it is BEEFY. You can build it without the input transformer if you just want the DI. If you are not ready to do this on perf board, use the ba boards and psu. Still, JLM has the best/cheapest PSU kits out there. If you record any other instruments, buy the Cinemag input transformers for a pre that spits on anything made from a wafer.

This is also very good:

(Click on pdf for schematic)

As for plugs, look at the Crane Song Phoenix.

I recommend http://www.prodigy-pro.com/diy/ if you want to DIY some pro audio or learn what people say about transformers.

Good luck.

I love my G2.
