First day back at school, no students yet, just us teachers. Meetings, meetings, mettings - first up, roll call, which takes more than ten minutes, as we're more than 250 staff at my school, then the head and some of the other members of the school adninistration talk at us for two hours, then the head of my department talks at us for fortyfive minutes, then lunch, then some more being talked at, then I bugger off home, as there was nobody around to give me my books so I could maybe start planning the school year. Ah well, at least we didn't hire someone from outside to talk at us this year. _________________ Where there are too many policemen, there is no liberty. If it's any consolation, Norway, who were odds-on favourites, managed to get beat 5-1 by Japan... _________________ Where there are too many policemen, there is no liberty. Where there are too many soldiers, there is no peace. Where there are too many lawyers, there is no justice.

Earlier in the week Ultimarc completed their prototype and mailed it to me. Plus I'm on to my cousin about creating an enclosure. So all is well regarding my little guitar project. Got 80 hits a day last weekend, so I know people are interested. _________________ "Let's make noise for peace." - Kijjaz

Ah, one of those thingies.
There has been some hoolah in the UK over intelligent bins, we soon will have bins that can fine us if we overload them, treat them badly or put the wrong things in them.
That's an aspect of it indeed, as it is with everything one does with networked computers. The idea here is to reduce waste volumes which in itself is a good idea IMO. _________________ Jan

I agree the idea is sound unfortunately the implementation here leaves a bit to be desired.
For example where I live they have changed the rubbish collection from one week to two weeks and also given us a bin that is half the size. So basically we are down to a quarter size.
To make up for this they now pick up plastic to be recycled, unfortunately only certain types of plastic, around 15-20% maybe. They will also take paper but not cardboard. Nothing else is collected.
So everyone started taking all their bulky cardboard to the cardboard recycling point about a mile away which was quickly overloaded, so instead of making this larger to handle the load they amazingly shut it down!
The nearest recycling point is now around 7 miles away. It can recycle cardboard and glass, everything else is for landfill. Of course a 14 mile round trip by car adds pollution.
Also there has been a major increase in rats, the council rat service is totally overloaded now.
So we have started freezing our waste food until the day before the rubbish is collected.
When you change one part of a complex system without thinking of the consequences you can get in a mess.
that sounds pretty messy indeed. _________________ Jan

Just returned from the hospital where they took a view inside my bladder... and found nothing...
That seems pretty messy as well ... but it also means they'll have to check the next thing now I guess? _________________ Jan

Oddly in many ways, it's been mostly boring, every evening at work, this week.
In testing manufactured circuit boards before their final Quality Assessment and shipped out the door, the 2 of us Testers are usually busy through the evening at 1 to 2 million $ / month. I heard the nite before last though, that are current status for the month is a (cough cough) whopping $75,000.
Though, this week we did also take delivery of 12 x 8 foot tall 19 inch rack enclosures for subway giant manufacturer, Thales. (Our 'sugar daddy'. )
Inspiration set in through all of the week though. Whilst trying to look busy, to keep the former-Celestica-management managers happy, my brain has been happily working away on new ideas for modifications of Ray Wilson's MFOS Sequencer, with unexpected successes in ways different than what were intended. (I'll leave details on such to the other thread as well as my web page.)
The last wonderful addition to knowledge were last night whilst I were reading a 1983 instruction module on operating a wave soldering machine. (Nothing else to do, to look busy. )
From it, I learned of the functionality of solder in it's application.
From THAT, I realized that by twisting threaded wire together with my fingers, I was applying skin-oils to the threads of the wires, possibly adding resistance TO the solder sticking to the threads of the threaded wire!
From now on - when I'm stripping wire, I'll keep the insulation on the end to do the twisting with, to keep the wire as pollution free as possible, to make my solder's adherence as proper as possible.
